Carolina Panthers 5 hours agoCharlotte Observer — (By Rick Bonnell, rbonnell@charlotteobserver.com) It was an odd experience at Bobcats coach Larry Brown's pregame media availability: The Philadelphia Inquirer had just reported 76ers coach Eddie Jordan would be fired by the end of the season, and Brown - the most successful coach in recent Sixers history - was asked to size up that team."They've had phenomenal drafts and they're in a good situation financially. I don't think they're very far away," Brown said. "I know what kind of owner (they) have, I know the fans are as good as any. I look at their roster and I see the chance for improvemen...

Charlotte Bobcats 8 hours agoLord Stanley's Blog | News & Observer — WASHINGTON -- The Canes will have a foursome of Finns in the lineup tonight against the Caps. The Canes recalled forward Oskar Osala from Albany (AHL) today to replace Erik Cole, who fell ill Tuesday night. Coach Paul Maurice said Cole is suffering from flu-like symptoms, although it was not believed to be H1N1. He could return to Raleigh this afternoon. For Osala, as well as defenseman Brian Pothier, it should be a special night. Both came to the Canes last Wednesday in the trade with the Caps that sent Joe Corvo to Washington. Oslala, 22, spent much of the season with the Hershey Bear...
Carolina Hurricanes 9 hours agoLord Stanley's Blog | News & Observer — WASHINGTON -- For Brian Pothier, the last week has been little more than a blur. A week ago today, Pothier woke up as a member of the Washington Capitals. By mid-afternoon, the defenseman had been traded to the Hurricanes. A day later, he was wearing No. 5 and in the Canes' lineup against the Ottawa Senators at the RBC Center, then flying off to play the Florida Panthers and Atlanta Thrashers. Tonight, it comes back full swing, so to speak. He'll be back on the Verizon Center ice with the Caps, but looking to beat the Caps. "You're on a team, you're in a community, your kids are in...
Carolina Hurricanes 9 hours agoLord Stanley's Blog | News & Observer — WASHINGTON - The game had a slightly surreal feel to it. Before the opening faceoff, there was Scott Walker lined up next to Ray Whitney — Walker in a red Washington Capitals sweater, Whitney in Carolina Hurricanes white. Soon after the faceoff, there was Joe Corvo trying to chase down Eric Staal — Corvo No. 77 for the Caps, Staal controlling the puck for the Canes. A little more than a week ago, the four were together on the ice, trying to win games for the Hurricanes. A big trade day changed all that, creating new faces in the lineups and new rivals in the Southeast Division rivalry. But in ...
Carolina Hurricanes 9 hours agoLord Stanley's Blog | News & Observer — While some will say the NHL's general managers didn't take a strong enough stand on eliminating hits to the head this week, the Canes' Jim Rutherford said a proposal offered today is a "step in the right direction." The GMs, after video presentations and much discussion, after going through reams of information, recommended today that a rules change be made to curtail blindside hits to the head. The proposal read: "A lateral, back pressure or blindside hit to an opponent where the head is targeted and or the principal point of contact is not permitted. A violation of the ab...
