Tom Matte played three positions at Ohio State but initially wished he had played only two. The Cleveland native played halfback and cornerback as a sophomore before moving to quarterback in 1959, when starter Jerry Fields suffered a shoulder injury during the first half of the season opener against Duke. Matte started at QB his senior year and was drafted seventh overall by the Baltimore Colts, where he played running back -- except for two games when he filled in at quarterback -- for 12 seasons.
