Growing a sport | Hockey: Local programs are producing elite players

Since moving to Columbus nine years ago, Ed Gingher has told anybody who would listen — even those with an eyebrow raised — that central Ohio is a burgeoning hotbed of hockey talent. Game preview: Crew vs. Revolution

How it might play out: The Crew has been on form since a poor first half last week against Houston, but New England comes to Crew Stadium with the longest active winning streak in the league, which has taken the Revolution from sixth place in the East to third. A victory for either side will go a long way toward solidifying a playoff spot with five games remaining. Eight of New England’s 12 losses have come on the road this year, however, and it’s hard to forecast anything but Crew success on a night when Frankie Hejduk is inducted into the Circle of Honor.
