2017 Mets Season Review: Seth Lugo’s season threw him many curves

The king of spin rate showed some signs of cromulence between injuries. The most notable portion of Seth Lugo’s 2017 season may well have taken place before Opening Day. His success in the early rounds of the World Baseball Classic brought some national prominence to a pitcher known to Mets fans for his impressive, seemingly out-of-nowhere late-season contributions to the team’s 2016 Wild Card run, and to the statistically-inclined for the otherworldly spin rate on his curveball. However, many speculated that Lugo’s early exertion pitching for Puerto Rico in the WBC may have...

A healthy Jeremy Lin and new faces have Nets talking ‘surprise’

INDIANAPOLIS — The Nets enter Wednesday’s season opener against the Pacers just as curious as they are confident. Last season’s finish and this summer’s additions have them convinced they’re better than the team that went an NBA-worst 20-62. But the proof is in the production, and the Nets are itching to show they really have...

A Giants win streak? It will require a different formula

The word of the week around the Giants is going to be “stack.’’ As in, “We got our first win, now it’s time to stack ’em.’’ The Giants’ ability to stack victories might be akin to telling someone who just won the lottery, “Yeah, nice job, let’s see you do it again.’’ The Giants want...

It isn’t about scoring, but competing. It isn’t about buckets, but buying in. “It’ll be clear to the...

Jets’ new boss is loving this non-tank

Christopher Johnson’s optimism might be wearing off on the Jets, and not vice versa. The team’s acting owner, who took over the duties since Woody Johnson began serving as the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, sang their praises after three wins and a hard-fought loss to the Patriots supported his call for more wins...

New York Knicks 2017-18 market report

STOCK RISING: With a $71 million contract, a lot will be expected of Tim Hardaway Jr. But he probably won't face the same scrutiny as Kristaps Porzingis. Hardaway Jr. is athletic, talented offensively and a good fit for what Jeff Hornacek wants to run -- an up-tempo offense. His game evolved and he matured in his two years in Atlanta. It should help him now because he has to have a good attitude amid some difficult times and show he's improved defensively.

Struggling Muhammad Wilkerson slammed: He’s ‘not interested’

There is no bigger mystery surrounding the 2017 Jets than: What the heck is going on with Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams? The two defensive linemen, who are considered the best players on the team, have had zero impact this season through six games. The two have combined for 0 sacks. These are two former...
