Colin Rea re-started his season Sunday at Triple-A El Paso. The 28-year-old right-hander returned from shoulder tightness with three solid innings in a game the Chihuahuas won, 8-7, over visiting Las Vegas for its sixth victory in a row. Rea struck out four and allowed an unearned run on two hits...

Padres notes: Another Renfroe blast a piece of puzzle; Green Wings it

Hunter Renfroe appears to have figured it out. It was just more than two weeks ago he acknowledged the remaining piece was power. “Home runs come, and they come in bunches,” Renfroe said Saturday, a day after hitting his fifth home run in 12 games. “I was never worried about power. I was (focused...

A lighter Rochelle more nimble and effective for Chargers

Isaac Rochell is not the same player he was a year ago. He’s significantly less than that. By his estimation, he’s close to 20 pounds less. “You know you’re lighter so you just mentally feel lighter, a little bit more nimble,” the Chargers’ second-year defensive end said. “You feel better. I definitely...

D-backs come back to beat Kirby Yates, Padres

Seldom-used this month, Kirby Yates has allowed four hits over his last two appearances. Two of them lost games for the Padres. Yates allowed a home run tag him and the Padres with a loss for the second time this week, A.J. Pollock’s loud, ninth-inning homer sending Arizona to a 4-3 win that spoiled...

Chargers add new safety off waivers

In the wake of losing safety Jaylen Watkins for the year to an ACL tear, the Los Angeles Chargers have added Micah Hannemann. He was claimed off waivers from the Cleveland Browns and will join a Chargers secondary which features one of his former collegiate teammates in Michael Davis. The two played together at BYU. Hannemann has decent size for a safety at 6’0”, 195 pounds. He had originally signed with Cleveland as an undrafted free agent a few months ago. If you recall Hannemann’s collegiate career, it is probably for his interception against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2015....

San Diego Padres Unveil Trevor Hoffman Statue

The latest member of the San Diego Padres to receive their own statue is none other than Trevor Hoffman. We couldn’t think of a more worthy candidate. First Tony Gwynn, then Jerry Coleman, and now Trevor Hoffman. All three of these San Diego Padres legends have now been immortalized in the beautiful Petco Park via […] San Diego Padres Unveil Trevor Hoffman Statue - Call to the Pen - Call to the Pen - A Major League Baseball Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Daily Charge: Jaylen Watkins lost for season with torn ACL

Another day, another major injury for the Los Angeles Chargers. Though the torn ACL of Jaylen Watkins may not be as devastating as the one suffered by Hunter Henry, it’s still tough to digest. Initial reports state that Watkins, a free-agent signing of the Chargers who played for the Philadelphia Eagles the last three seasons. Allen Cordoba undergoes season-ending thumb surgery

Allen Cordoba’s second year in the organization was not kind to the former Rule-5 pick. The 22-year-old utility man underwent surgery Friday to repair a UCL damage in his left thumb on a dive in the outfield earlier this month at high Single-A Lake Elsinore, thus ending a season that began with...

Takeaways from Chargers’ 24-14 preseason win over Seahawks

The Los Angeles Chargers put forth a solid team effort on Saturday night in defeating the Seattle Seahawks 24-14 in preseason action. Safety Jaylen Watkins tears ACL

Safety Jaylen Watkins tears ACL

In typical Chargers fashion, another (possibly) key player has suffered a season-ending injury. This injury was sustained by Safety Jaylen Watkins. Watkins has reportedly torn his ACL, per Ian Rapaport. This is the third player that has suffered this injury for the Chargers, with the first two being tight ends Hunter Henry and Austin Roberts. He is also the second defensive back to be out for the season after cornerback Jason Verrett tore his Achilles on the first day of camp. Things are not looking good on the injury front for the team. #Chargers S Jaylen Watkins suffered a torn ACL...

Padres notes: Spangenberg's simulation; Myers saving face; Hosmer heating up

Cory Spangenberg is in the starting lineup at second base again Sunday. It’s where he wants to be, where he believes he should be. He has started 10 of the past 12 games and is hitting .375/.512/.594 in the stretch. But he knows that in an organization with highly touted prospects on track to be...

Thoughts On The Chargers Win Against The Seahawks

Thoughts On The Chargers Win Against The Seahawks

My thoughts and opinions on the second preseason matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. On Saturday night we got our first look at the 2018 Chargers on their home turf against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. Fans also got to watch Philip Rivers and the rest of the starting offense for the first time this preseason as Rivers, Keenan Allen, and others played just over one quarter of action before handing the game over to Geno Smith and the backups. Once again, this game was much easier to watch than a year ago when it seemed like whenever Rivers stepped off the field, the offense...

Luis Patino again strong for Fort Wayne

Again, the hits off Luis Patino were few and far between at low Single-A Fort Wayne. The Padres’ fast-rising pitching prospect scattered two hits over 5 2/3 shutout innings in the TinCaps’ 3-1 win over host Lansing on Saturday. Patino (6-3, 2.21) struck out five and scattered three walks in the...
