If you could add a former great to the current roster, who would it be?

What past great from the Chargers would you add to the roster? A couple weeks ago a question was posed on if you could add a former great from your favorite team to the current roster, who would it be? I like to poke the bear so I jokingly said Drew Brees. You can go a number of different ways, though. With the recent injury news to Hunter Henry, I might slide prime Antonio Gates in there. I don’t care how much you love him or think he needs more chances, I’m replacing Melvin Gordon with that running back who wore #21 before you can finish saying LaDainian Tomlinson. Holy hell can you...

San Diego Padres Should Wait Out Manuel Margot’s Funk

The San Diego Padres are in quite a conundrum regarding their uber-talented yet badly slumping centerfielder, Manuel Margot. The San Diego Padres don’t necessarily need to keep Manuel Margot in their outfield rotation. Heck, they don’t even need to keep him at the major-league level, as they have more than enough other options to move […] San Diego Padres Should Wait Out Manuel Margot’s Funk - Friars on Base - Friars on Base - A San Diego Padres Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

When it comes to the draft, Padres working from a 'different playbook'

A.J. Preller’s near-$80-million spending spree in the 2016-17 international amateur market has a great deal to do with the Padres’ farm system ranking, by most accounts, among the top-three in the game. The fourth-year general manager’s never-ending, globe-trotting search for talent also directs...

Is re-signing Antonio Gates the best option to replace Hunter Henry?

With Hunter Henry being lost for the season, the Chargers have a decision to make at tight end. Los Angeles Chargers undrafted rookie spotlight: WR J.J. Jones

The Los Angeles Chargers currently have 11 wide receivers on their 90-man roster. One of those is a diminutive prospect from West Georgia named J.J. Jones. Jones, who will wear jersey No. 89 this summer, is the smallest receiver on the roster at 5-10 and 173 pounds. But he also might be the fastest. Tyson Ross helping the Padres win now, maybe later

Tyson Ross makes it sound easy, but he also knows how important what he’s doing is for the Padres. Now and potentially (probably) later. “I’m just going out there trying to give the team a chance to win,” he said. “Six, seven (innings,) whatever it may be. I only get the ball once every five days,...

Failure to sweep: Nationals drop finale to Padres, 3-1, take 2 of 3 in series in D.C.

Erick Fedde impressed in his first start of the 2018 campaign, but the San Diego Padres avoided a sweep with a 3-1 win over Washington in the series finale in Nationals Park. Erick Fedde returned to the majors to make his four career start this afternoon in the series finale with the San Diego Padres, with the doubleheader in D.C. this past Saturday forcing Washington’s Nationals to either throw one of their starters (Tanner Roark) on short rest or dip down into their minor league system, which they did. Fedde impressed, giving up three earned runs on five hits in 5 2⁄3 IP over which...
