Jens Lehmann linked to MLS, Sounders FC?

Sounders FC Blog | Seattle Times — This story showed up in my Google Alerts feed this morning, linking German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann with a move to Major League Soccer (particularly New York and Seattle). The 40-year-old most famously played for Arsenal from 2003-08, sharing the field with Freddie Ljungberg for a couple years. He's also logged many starts for Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund and is currently with Stuttgart. An obvious talent, sure. But he's a bit of a headcase to put it lightly. He's also the same age as Kasey Keller, who is still in top form and hoping to still in Seattle for a couple years. I give this a 2.3% c...

Today's lineups: Mariners vs. Rockies

Mariners Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — Greetings from Tucson. It's a gorgeous day and we have Felix Hernandez making his first Cactus League start of the season. Manager Don Wakamatsu said Hernandez will throw about three innings or 50 pitches.  Though Wakamatsu said, all Hernandez really cares about is hitting.  Remember in National League parks, teams don't use the DH. Of course, [...]

Mariners in Tucson --- today's lineups

Mariners Blog | Seattle Times — The team has made it to Tucson for today's 1 p.m. game against the Rockies --- all 31 of them. With there being no reason for players who aren't in the plans to play to make the two-hour bus ride here, a number are being left behind. As noted earlier, a few --- such as Ichiro, Chone Figgins and Ken Griffey Jr. --- won't be here for either game. Others are here today and then heading back tonight, while others stayed in Peoria today and will come down tomorrow for the game against Arizona. Here is today's lineup: Eric Byrnes, CF Josh Wilson, SS Milton Bradley, LF Ryan Garko, 1B Matt Tuiasosopo,...

Morning links: Some perspective on WR Marshall

Seahawks Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — Denver Post columnist Dave Krieger offers a different perspective on WR Brandon Marshall. Krieger believes Marshall has become somewhat of a caricature in the media because of his off-the-field transgressions, which include his role in the death of former Broncos teammate Darrent Williams. But Krieger notes some of the good things Marshall has done in [...]

Huskies vs. Gonzaga in the first round? It could happen

Husky Men's Basketball Blog | Seattle Times — We're not finished with the bracketologists just yet. Washington settled the matter of whether it will get in the NCAA tournament, but now let's take a look at where they'll land in the bracket. Andy Glockner at SI.com has UW as a 10 seed in Jacksonville against No. 7 Texas in the Midwest Region. That would be an interesting matchup pitting former teammates Abdul Gaddy and Avery Bradley against each other. They played together at Tacoma's Bellermine Prep. ESPN bracket guru Joe Lunardi believes the Huskies will be a No. 11 seed in New Orleans, which would make my wife very happy. He thinks UW w...

Stanford post-game analysis

Husky Men's Basketball Blog | Seattle Times — A Washington assistant walked past press row after the Huskies' 79-64 win over Stanford and asked a simple question. "We're in, right?" "In," I said. "You sure?" "I'm sure. You're in," I replied. Still the Huskies aren't taking any chances. The school will only host a Selection Sunday viewing party that would be open to the public at the Don James Center if the Huskies beat California tomorrow at 3 p.m. to win the Pac-10 Conference Tournament title and secure the automatic tournament berth. If UW loses, then they'll gather privately around TVs on Sunday like everyone else and watch and see wh...

  • Malone out - 03-14-10 Empty Netters | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Lightning forward and former Penguin Ryan Malone (above) will not play today due to an "upper-body" injury. EN Says: Malone abused the Penguins near their net and was a key player in Tampa Bay's 3-1 win, Jan. 2. He was held off the scoreboard but he led the game with seven shots. In short, he's still Ryan Malone. He's still a good player. This is good news for the Penguins. (Photo: Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

  • Jake Delhomme joins Browns with two-year contract FFToolbox.com If you are an average-at-best quarterback and need to find a home in the NFL, try Cleveland. The Browns are racking them up. Their newest addition is Jake Delhomme, whom the team signed to a two-year contract on Saturday. Complete financial figures weren't immediately available, but multiple reports state Cleveland will pay Delhomme $7 million in 2010. Delhomme, 35, was cut by the Carolina Panthers last week and was scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints.
