Sunderland 0-1 Southampton: Player Ratings

Sunderland lost at the Stadium of Light, here’s how the lads played. Costel Pantilimon – 7 Pantilimon made the saves you’d expect and commanded the box a lot better than he has in previous weeks. He got close to the penalty but it was right in the corner. DeAndre Yedlin– 6 He got caught a couple of times defending against Tadic but generally he defended ok and got forward regularly. Billy Jones – 6 Similar to Yedlin as Jones got forward as much as he could and defended well against a very good Southampton attack. Seb Coates– 7 Both centre backs looked a lot better today than...

Sunderland 0-1 Southampton: Tadic Penalty Enough For Saints

Southampton stay unbeaten away from home this season as they secured all three points against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. A Dusan Tadic penalty was enough for Southampton to beat Sunderland as more mistakes prove costly for the Black Cats. It was a quiet start to the game as both sides enjoyed early spells of possession, but it was Southampton who created the first chance after 15 minutes. A long ball was flicked on by Pelle allowing Tadic through on goal but Pantilimon was out quickly to deny him. Southampton began to dominate possession as the half went on and they had another...

Everton vs Sunderland: Extended Highlights

All the goals, saves and everything else What a game! The momentum went back and forth a couple of times this game, but in the end Everton prevailed 6-2 over Sunderland. After a poor start for the Blues at home when Sunderland twice hit the post and fans were preparing to see the inevitable goal for the away side, Arouna Kone sent a seeing-eye diagonal that found Gerard Deulofeu, who nutmegged Costel Pantilimon via a deflection. On the half-hour mark, Kone played a neat give-and-go with Romelu Lukaku and then hammered in the top corner. 2-0 and the game looked over. However, Sunderland...

Everton 6-2 Sunderland: Player Ratings

Sunderland lost at Goodison, here’s how the lads played. Costel Pantilimon – 5 He didn’t have to make many saves as it seemed everything Everton hit went in. Billy Jones – 5 Looked anonymous in the defensive set up and Sunderland don’t get the right balance between attack and defence when he doesn’t play full back. DeAndre Yedlin– 5 Didn’t seem to affect play much as a lot of Everton and Sunderland attacks mainly went down the other wing. Wes Brown– 4 He hadn’t played since this fixture last year and that looked the case as he was several yards off the pace. Seb Coates...

Sunderland 3-0 Newcastle United: Player Ratings

Sunderland made it six wins in a row against Newcastle, here’s how the lads played. Costel Pantilimon – 9 Much better game from Pantilimon, he had to make an early save to deny Coloccini and an even better save from Mitrovic when leading 1-0. DeAndre Yedlin– 8 Improving every game. He offered himself in attack as much as he could and more importantly he defended very well. Billy Jones – 8 Much the same performance as Yedlin both in attack and defence. Jones looks a lot better at left back and he thoroughly deserved a goal after being unlucky last week. John O’Shea– 7 O’Shea...

Sunderland 3-0 Newcastle United: SIX IN A ROW

The Black Cats made it six derby wins in a row and got their first league win of the season in a clinical display at the Stadium of Light. Goals from Johnson, Jones and Fletcher capped off a clinical performance from the Black Cats as they made it six wins in a row against the Magpies. Newcastle had the first opportunity after two minutes when Colback’s free kick found Coloccini at the back post but Pantilimon was able to claw out the Argentine’s acrobatic effort. Newcastle had another chance on 16 minutes after a neat one two between Wijnaldum and Mitrovic allowed Wijnaldum a free shot...
