David Luiz posts video of training as Antonio Conte delivers happy news regarding injuries

Following last weekend's win over Manchester City, there were a few injury concerns in the Chelsea squad.  Nemanja Matić had missed out due to a muscular injury, while the trio of Diego Costa, Pedro, and David Luiz seemed to suffer knocks during the game itself.  David Luiz especially looked in pain after Sergio Aguero's assault on both of his knees (the right with the legs and the left by landing into it). Adding to the concerns around the defender was his absence from training videos posted by Chelsea TV.  Obviously these videos aren't definitive sources of team news, but last week,...

David Luiz vs. Manchester City: Four minutes of clearances, interceptions, and glorious long passes

David Luiz is the best. David Luiz has been rather amazing since his return to Chelsea on Transfer Deadline Day in August — he’s always been amazing of course, but now even the general public opinion is seemingly acknowledging that, with much of the English football media having to keep their pre-written stories about his headcase defending in the drafts folder — but his performance on Saturday was perhaps his best yet. Here are some of the highlights, as posted on David Luiz’s official Facebook page. DL vs M. City#ComeonBluesPosted by David Luiz on Tuesday, December 6,...
The FA rule on Aguero, Fernandinho, Fabregas and charge both Manchester City and Chelsea

The FA rule on Aguero, Fernandinho, Fabregas and charge both Manchester City and Chelsea

As expected, The FA have charged both Manchester City and Chelsea with a violation of Rule E20 for "failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour" in the 95th minute of Saturday's match at the Etihad.  Both clubs have until Thursday (8pm local time) to respond to the charge. Any Chelsea response will no doubt make special mention of Sergio Aguero's moment of madness, which could've caused some real harm to David Luiz.  The FA have turned a blind eye to such incidents before (see: Ashley Barnes on Nemanja Matic), so...

Sergio Aguero's assault on Chelsea defender David Luiz is about as bad as it gets

GRAHAM POLL: Sergio Aguero’s assault on David Luiz — it cannot be referred to as a tackle — was as bad a foul as I have seen. It should be dealt with as strongly as the FA can manage.

David Luiz, Diego Costa, Willian reflect on win and fracas against Man City, dealing with Chapecoense tragedy

David Luiz, Diego Costa, Willian reflect on win and fracas against Man City, dealing with Chapecoense tragedy

At the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, Chelsea passed the toughest test of the season so far by beating Pep Guardiola's Manchester City 3-1, overcoming a 1-0 half-time lead by the Citizens on a Gary Cahill own goal. Chelsea's Brazilian core of David Luiz, Diego Costa and Willian made a huge contribution to the result, with the former giving a great performance in defence and the latter two scoring the team's first two goals in the game. At the end of the match, Argentinian striker Sergio Agüero made a criminal challenge on David. And it was not the first time he's done something of this sort...

David Luiz plays down Aguero's latest five-second angry, plays translator for Costa, pays tribute to Chapecoense

David Luiz plays down Aguero's latest five-second angry, plays translator for Costa, pays tribute to Chapecoense

Four seasons ago, in the 2012-13 FA Cup, a new phrase was born: five-second angry.  That's how David Luiz described Sergio Aguero's two-footed stomp on his backside, a challenge for which, shockingly, Aguero received no punishment.  The FA gonna FA, right? David Luiz didn't quite use the same terminology this time around, following Aguero's shocking airborne tackle right into the his knees.  The City striker was clearly frustrated by what had happened in the game (no doubt also remembering Luiz's lucky(?) escape for the first incident), but he's not that type of player, right?  Well,...
