Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea, Premier League: Half-time report

Crystal Palace vs. Chelsea, Premier League: Half-time report

A rather poor effort from Chelsea in the first half sees Palace lead 2-1 at half-tiem Not exactly vintage effort from Chelsea so far today, to say the least, with Palace outplaying, outhustling, and most importantly outscoring Chelsea through the first 45 minutes. The 2-1 scoreline is not exactly what we’ve been planning. Palace started full of vim and vigor and while they didn’t really pose any tangible threat, Chelsea still managed to contrive an opener for them, made to pay dearly for some throughly disorganized and panicky defending. A clearance from David Luiz hit Cabaye’s...

Chelsea's David Luiz shows off his cooking skills in Paris

Chelsea centre back David Luiz donned a chef's hat as he went behind the scenes to work in the kitchens at Cesar Restaurant in Paris on his return to the French capital.

Christensen happy with his start at Chelsea, ready to keep challenging all others for playing time

It is never good to lose a player, be that to injury, suspension or any other reason, but sometimes these unfortunate events can turn into opportunities for others. Michy Batshuayi, for example, has a tremendous opportunity now to step up while Álvaro Morata is sidelined with a hamstring injury, just as young Andreas Christensen stepped up while David Luiz was suspended for three games following his red card against Arsenal. Christensen, who’s spent the last two seasons out on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach is the latest great hope of the Chelsea Academy and the youth and loan system...

The Daily Hilario: Breath of the boring

Your daily dose of off-topic shenanigans. I haven't played a Zelda game since the N64, and that only briefly (up to the David Luiz tree).  Really enjoying Breath of the Wild so far. Unlike the international break, which is a real breath of the boring so far. See what I did there? Yeah, this is what's come to. Any "casual" gaming recommendations for the Switch, by the way? This thing needs a Football Manager. FOOTBALL (all times BST):19.05: UEFA Women's Champions League, R of 32, 1st leg: CHELSEA LFC vs. Bayern Munich

Moses, Fabregas, David Luiz show love and respect for Conte in Best FIFA award nomination

Antonio Conte is one of three finalists for the The Best FIFA Men’s Coach 2017 award, alongside the coaches of the two Champions League finalists, Max Allegri at Juventus and Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid. While Zidane’s Double of La Liga and European glory (not to mention the FIFA World Club Cup and UEFA Super Cup as well) makes him the runaway favorite, Conte’s accomplishments in returning Chelsea to Europe and the top of the Premier League after a mid-table finish (and associated tactical revolution that he ushered in) should not be underestimated. In support of the Chelsea’s...

Chelsea fan murdered during game after David Luiz comments

A Chelsea fan from Ghana was stabbed and consequently died of his injuries in the suburb of Accra after criticising David Luiz’s performance. ‘Deco’ was attacked by three men after passing the comments whilst Chelsea’s Champions League tie with Atletico Madrid was still being played. Ghana Sports Online report that the trio heard the man slate […] The post Chelsea fan murdered during game after David Luiz comments appeared first on CaughtOffside.

Manchester City’s Danilo: ‘I’m looking forward, I want more trophies here’

The Brazilian full-back has won the Champions League and multiple league titles with Real Madrid, Porto and Santos but is fully focused on achieving more at the Etihad Stadium before Saturday’s visit to champions ChelseaDanilo smiles and pulls up a trouser leg up to show a tattoo below his left knee that says: “Conquistando o impossível pela fé”.Translated as “Conquering the impossible for faith”, the Brazilian is relating how long before his £26.5m summer move to Manchester City the club had a defining impact on his career.David Luiz is a really good friend. Hopefully after the...
David Luiz offers weakest excuse ever for giving away penalty against Atlético Madrid

David Luiz offers weakest excuse ever for giving away penalty against Atlético Madrid

All is well that ends well ... especially if it ends amazingly well. In fact, without the silly penalty given away, we may never have gotten that most joyous of endings in Michy Batshuayi scoring the winner with literally the final touch of the game. We probably still would’ve won, but the way it unfolded just made for a perfect evening. Which makes it all the more disappointing that David Luiz didn’t simply just own up* to his error and felt the need to offer a weak excuse instead. “I didn’t have the power to stop him because of my injury and I pushed his shirt. In the rules...
Chelsea prove Champions League credentials by outplaying Atlético Madrid on their own turf

Chelsea prove Champions League credentials by outplaying Atlético Madrid on their own turf

It was perhaps fitting that the final play of the game, a 15-second 8-pass move with time running out, started with a foul on David Luiz. Chelsea’s center half, who had been moved into defensive midfield by that point, got the scoring started with a silly foul on Lucas Hernández, pulling the Atléti youngster to the ground in full view of the referee and gifting the home side a penalty kick. Now it was David Luiz who won the free kick to grant Chelsea the set piece opportunity, one that everyone expected Chelsea to simply lump into the box and hope for the best. We had five talls in...
Atlético Madrid 1-2 Chelsea, Champions League: Post-match reaction

Atlético Madrid 1-2 Chelsea, Champions League: Post-match reaction

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA WHAT A LEGENDARY MOVE AT THE END Chelsea played very well but in the end have to settle for a draw despite outshooting and out-possessing the home side by quite a large margin. Morata’s latest headed goal brought the Blues back on level terms in the second half, soon after which Fabregas missed a wide open net. Frustrating in a way, but an excellent performance overall. Carefree. The 3-5-2 worked very very well today, with Hazard & Morata combining well up top and the semi-fluid midfield three shifting around as needed. Easy to blame David Luiz for the...
Atlético Madrid vs. Chelsea, Champions League: Half-time report

Atlético Madrid vs. Chelsea, Champions League: Half-time report

Eden Hazard has hit the post and Álvaro Morata has come close twice as Chelsea have largely controlled proceedings in the first-half against Atlético Madrid. Atlético unfortunately do lead 1-0, as they got a gift of a penalty from the referee that Griezmann converted. Sure, it was technically a foul by David Luiz, but same thing went uncalled 10 minutes prior on Morata in the Atléti box. Hazard, in general, has been Chelsea’s most threatening player, but Morata has not been afraid to shoot and both Kanté and Bakayoko have been pressing effectively. The midfield trio of the 3-5-2...

Atletico Madrid vs. Chelsea, Champions League: Confirmed lineups

Chelsea will be debuting the new Nike third kits today. Hopefully they’ll bring just as much good luck as they did for the U19s, who won in them earlier today, beating Atletico 3-1, thanks to first half goals from Charlie Brown, Dujon Sterling, and Jacob Maddox. So now it’s the first-team’s turn. Here we go. Atletico Madrid starting lineup (4-4-2):Oblak | Filipe Luis, Lucas, Godin (c), Juanfran | Carrasco, Thomas, Koke, Saul | Griezmann, Correa Substitutes from: Moya, Savic, Gimenez, Gabi, Gaitan, Vietto, Torres Chelsea starting lineup (3-5-2):Courtois | Cahill (c), David Luiz,...
