Match officials admit they made a mistake on Lo Celso ankle stamp

Match officials admit they made a mistake on Lo Celso ankle stamp

Photo by Julian Finney/ Uhhhhh, yeah you did. Any reasonable Spurs fan who watched Tottenham Hotspur lose 2-1 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge will admit that Giovani Lo Celso was extremely lucky to play the full match. Lo Celso was involved in a second half incident by the touchline where he stamped on the ankle of Cesar Azpilicueta as the latter slid into a challenge. Match official Michael Oliver let play go on, but stopped play for an extensive VAR review. Ultimately, and amazingly, VAR official David Coote determined that the no-call was not a clear and obvious error, presumably...

Mourinho: “I am so, so happy” with Giovani Lo Celso

Mourinho: “I am so, so happy” with Giovani Lo Celso

Photo by Michael Steele/ Nothing to worry about! Giovani Lo Celso had a bit of a rough introduction to live at Tottenham Hotspur. Signed late in the summer transfer window on loan with a purchase option from Real Betis, the Argentine playmaker struggled to integrate in the team under then-manager Mauricio Pochettino, and later had an injury setback sustained while on international duty that kept him out of the team for weeks. Then, Pochettino got sacked and Jose Mourinho came in. The early indications were that Mourinho may not have favored Lo Celso at all, as he wasn’t selected in...

TEAM NEWS: Four out for Spurs at Villa, but Davies, Lo Celso back in training

Photo by Tottenham Hotspur FC/Tottenham Hotspur FC via Welcome back, Gentle Ben! Tottenham Hotspur are set for a trip to the midlands to face relegation-threatened Aston Villa on Sunday, and they’ll be taking a (mostly) healthy squad there. Spurs released their team news on social media today and it’s pretty good, all things considered. Spurs have four players unavailable or likely to be — Harry Kane, Moussa Sissoko, Juan Foyth, and Erik Lamela — but Ben Davies could return to the starting lineup, and Giovani Lo Celso is back in training after missing Spurs’ last match. TEAM...

Mourinho: Tottenham will purchase Lo Celso in January

Mourinho: Tottenham will purchase Lo Celso in January

Photo by Mike Hewitt/ About damn time! Tottenham Hotspur made the decision, for various financial reasons, to bring attacking midfielder Giovani Lo Celso in on a season-long loan this summer, with an obligation to purchase him for an additional £32m this coming June. However, details emerged a couple of months ago that stated Spurs can exercise an option to purchase him for £27m during the January transfer window, should they desire to. Until now, it was an open question if Spurs manager Jose Mourinho even liked Lo Celso at all as he was reticent to pick him in lineups earlier in the...

Tottenham 2-1 Norwich: Community Player Ratings

Photo by Naomi Baker/ A WIN! TOTTENHAM WIN! OMG Tottenham Hotspur won a match! It wasn’t always pretty, but Spurs got three points at home against a relegation-threatened Norwich City on Wednesday. Dele Alli scored a beauty, and Son Heung-Min nodded home the winner after Teemu Pukki scored from the penalty spot. The final score was 2-1. Let’s rate the players! There were certainly some good performances, especially Giovani Lo Celso’s outstanding performance today, and maybe some not-so-great outings as well (Ryan Sessegnon, looking at you). This is your chance to have your voice...
