Bournemouth 4, Liverpool 3: First Thoughts

Bournemouth 4, Liverpool 3: First Thoughts

Liverpool and the toxic thunder kits cause all sorts of problems for the Cherries, but give them the answer key. Bournemouth 2 Wilson 56’ (penalty), Fraser 76’, Cook 78’, Aké 90+3’ Liverpool 3 Mané 20’, Origi 22’, Can 64’ Prematch Thought: Adam Lallana is starting on the bench this afternoon, which is great because he’s been sorely missed but not enough to risk breaking him a second time. Firmino is fit to start, though, and that’s a welcome sight. Oh god, are we really doing the toxic thunder kits again? Lucas at center back klaxon! Origi with the first big chance...

Papa Lucas Talks About the Kids

Long time servant Lucas Leiva talked about the youth moment under Klopp and what the senor players are doing to help. One of the best things about watching Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Leeds in the League Cup quarterfinal was seeing all the young players out there doing good footballing stuff. Academy products Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ovie Ejaria, and (most notably) Ben Woodburn all featured for the reads. But in addition to excellent yutes, we also had excellent veterans to help them out, and no current Liverpool player is more veteran than Lucas Leiva. After the match, Lucas talked...

Lucas Leiva Pays Tribute to Chapecoense Plane Crash Victims

The Brazilian defender admitted it was difficult to play in the EFL Cup quarterfinal in the wake of the earlier tragedy. The footballing world was shocked and horrified late Monday night/early Tuesday when news of an airplane transporting the Brazilian Chapecoense football team, along with staff and journalists, from Brazil to Colombia to compete in the final of the Copa Sudamericana crashed, killing 75 people on board. Most of the internet experienced this tragedy with an outsider’s sympathy, but for Liverpool stalwart Lucas Leiva, it was much more personal. The Brazil native, who played...

First Thoughts: Southampton 0, Liverpool 0

An international break hang over showed as Liverpool and Southampton played out a goalless draw. Southampton 0 Liverpool 0 PRE-MATCH: Coutinho and Firmino both start despite their short turn around after playing for Brazil. Whatever Coutinho was in the hospital for clearly was just precautionary. Adam Lallana, on the other hand, sits this one out. We’ll see Wijnaldum jump back into the first team, as well as Lovren retake his place in the back line from Lucas. It’s nice when we’re missing one of our in-form players, but we have enough quality to cover for it. We’ll see what...

Lucas Weighs In On Liverpool Title Challenge

He's happy with the way the Reds are playing but wary of getting overconfident this early in the season. Amid a Liverpool team full of emerging youngsters, veteran central midfielder Lucas Leiva stands out for his experience with the club. It's been a bumpy road for him over the past couple of seasons, but he still provides a voice of reason in the locker room. So when asked about a potential title challenge from the Reds, he weighed in with a level-headed opinion. "Every time Liverpool is in a good position, people start to talk about titles very often and it is the only thing they say,"...

West Brom Will Reportedly Return for Mamadou Sakho in January

With Sakho expected to depart Liverpool, Tony Pulis is hopeful of convincing the player to remain in England. Over the summer, following his falling out at Liverpool with Jürgen Klopp, West Bromwich Albion moved to bring Mamadou Sakho in on loan. The player blocked the deal, hoping that if he remained at Anfield, he could slowly work his way back into the first team picture. That hasn’t worked out so far, with Sakho remaining well back of Jöel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Lucas Leiva, and Ragnar Klavan on the defensive depth chart. In recent weeks, the player appears to have accepted that,...

Jürgen Klopp Gives Liverpool Stars the Week Off

First team regulars not on international duty have been given the week to rest and recover. Though more known for the hard running demands of his three-a-day pre-season training sessions, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has decided that after his side secured first place in the Premier League heading into the November international break, something of an actual break for his players was in order. At least for the first teamers remaining at Anfield and not off on international duty—a group including the likes of Loris Karius, Jöel Matip Dejan Lovren, James Milner, Lucas Leiva, and Emre...
