Newcastle 0 Arsenal 1 match report: Gunners finish fourth thanks to Laurent Koscielny winner

Mikel Arteta doubtful for Newcastle match

The Short Fuse — Arsenal pulled out a great 4-1 win over Wigan Athletic today, and everything seemed to be setting up well for Sunday's season closer at St. James Park in Newcastle, until Arsene Wenger dropped kind of a bombshell in his post-match press conference: Wenger: "Arteta pulled his calf. He is a massive doubt for Sunday." #AFCvWAFC — Arsenal.com (@Arsenal) May 14, 2013 This is obviously a massive blow for Arsenal if it comes to pass. Mikel Arteta has been a stalwart conductor for Arsenal from the deeper parts of the midfield for two years now, and if he can't go, it means that most li...

In defense of Mikel Arteta

The Short Fuse — In this rather dispiriting season, it seems as if almost every single Arsenal player has taken some sort of harsh and unfair criticism. Perhaps the most unfair criticism has been that leveled at Mikel Arteta, who, in the absence of Arsenal spending money on a defensive midfielder to replace Alex Song, has been the primary de...

Word is that Mikel misses t...
