OPINION: Does anyone know what Sunderland’s strongest starting eleven actually is?

OPINION: Does anyone know what Sunderland’s strongest starting eleven actually is?

We head into the game desperately needing three points today, with many pertinent questions about the suitability of certain players and the manager’s strongest team still unanswered. I don't need to spell it out to anyone - we head into this today's game at home to Cardiff City needing to win; for a whole multitude of reasons, but simply put, we are desperate for the three points and I for one, don't care how we get them. After playing eight league matches so far and winning only once, Sunderland find themselves one point above the drop zone, with only Brentford, Birmingham and Bolton...

Scout Report: Cardiff City - Will Black Cats show their predatory instincts against Bluebirds?

Scout Report: Cardiff City - Will Black Cats show their predatory instincts against Bluebirds?

On Saturday afternoon Sunderland take on third placed Cardiff City at the SoL. We’ve yet to win this season - will that change today? The story so far Five wins, two draws and just the one defeat for Neil Warnock’s Bluebirds - a very decent start for the Welsh side. Cardiff began the season with five straight victories, including a 3-0 home victory over Aston Villa and a 2-1 away win at fellow high-flyers Wolves. August saw Cardiff emerge with a 100% record, but September has highlighted signs of weakness in the Cardiff ranks - the Welsh club have yet to taste victory since the...

The Big Match: after nine long months labouring without a home win, Sunderland must beat Cardiff

The Big Match: after nine long months labouring without a home win, Sunderland must beat Cardiff

Sunderland fans will have woken this morning with a certain trepidation ahead of the visit of Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City. But dear me, it shouldn’t be like this. Haway the Lads. Without a home win in nine months, failure to find a way past Cardiff City this afternoon will extend Sunderland’s record-breaking 280 days without a Stadium of Light victory by a further three weeks. Today’s 3pm kick-off on Wearside precedes two away games before another international break delays the Black Cats next home fixture to 14th October; and the longer that run continues, the greater the...

Sunderland have doubts in defence for Cardiff visit - and, is Aiden Mcgeady back yet?

Sunderland have doubts in defence for Cardiff visit - and, is Aiden Mcgeady back yet?

Sunderland have three key injury doubts ahead of tomorrow’s 3pm clash with Cardiff City. Sunderland boss Simon Grayson will make a late decision on whether to include Aiden McGeady, John O’Shea and Marc Wilson in his squad for tomorrow’s crunch clash with Cardiff City. The Black Cats trio remain fitness doubts for Saturday’s 3pm clash with the high-flying Bluebirds as Sunderland seek an end to a dismal run of form which has resulted in no win from six league games. McGeady, Wilson, O’Shea still injury doubts ahead of the weekend. Grayson waiting to see how they react after...

“It was always going to be difficult with the team we put out” - Grayson looking to keep players fresh

“It was always going to be difficult with the team we put out” - Grayson looking to keep players fresh

With the admission that last night’s bizarre team selection was partially down to the Sunderland boss keeping an eye out for Saturday’s game against Cardiff, has Grayson put even more pressure on his side ahead of this weekend’s visit from Cardiff City? On several occasions now it has felt like Simon Grayson is both damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t. Last night was one of those evenings where anything and everything the gaffer did just turned to cack. It was always going to be difficult with the team we put out – we certainly had one eye on the weekend. Grayson was...
