Robert Meachem - Robert Meachem could be trade bait

The Huddle — If San Diego Chargers WR Robert Meachem has a strong preseason, the club could see if there's an active trade market for him. His $6.875 million cap number, however, may make that a difficult task. Huddle Up: The Chargers would love for their young receivers to step up and make Meachem expendable, but they also need Meachem to look good so they can get at least something for their ill-advised free agency investment. The 49ers are looking for receiver help at the moment, so perhaps there's a match to be made there.

Danario Alexander - Danario Alexander healthy, looking good

The Huddle — San Diego Chargers WR Danario Alexander looked fluid in making back-shoulder catches in practice Monday, May 20. He claims he's at full speed, a contrast to his injured May practices last year with the St. Louis Rams. Huddle Up: Alexander has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, but in those limited stretches of good health he's been productive. The Chargers are looking for a go-to receiver, so if Alexander can stay healthy he's the prime candidate for the job.

Pierre Garcon - Pierre Garcon had shoulder surgery

The Huddle — Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon underwent minor labrum surgery in January. Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Garcon has recovered from the shoulder surgery and is about 90 percent recovered from his foot surgery. He expects Garcon to sit out until training camp. Huddle Up: Garcon played hurt much of last year, so getting him healthy is the priority. And if he's able to get and stay healthy, he'll be Robert Griffin III's top downfield target.

Pierre Garcon - Garcon had shoulder surgery in January

The Huddle — Washington Redskins WR Pierre Garcon (shoulder) underwent minor labrum surgery in January but has fully recovered. He was held out of team drills during organized team activities Thursday, May 23, as a precaution. Huddle Up: The shoulder surgery may be the hot news at moment, but the bigger concern with Garcon remains the possibility that the wideout's bothersome foot could flare up at any time after it hampered him all of this past season. Nonetheless, Mike Shanahan and the Skins are expecting a close-to-100 percent healthy Garcon by the start of training camp in 2 months.

Tony Moeaki - K.C.'s Moeaki not likely to return until July

The Huddle — Kansas City Chiefs TE Tony Moeaki (knee) is unlikely to be on the practice field until training camp in July. Moeaki has been watching from the sidelines during organized team activities this week. Huddle Up: K.C. will be in no hurry to rush Moeaki after signing free-agent Anthony Fasano and drafting Travis Kelce in the third round. Moeaki had 33 catches for 453 yards and a TD in 2012, a year after missing the 2011 season with a knee injury.

Fred Davis - Fred Davis close to 100 percent

The Huddle — Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said TE Fred Davis is about 90 percent recovered from his Achilles' tendon injury and that he expects Davis to sit out until training camp. Huddle Up: Davis should be able to walk right back into his starting role, and more importantly to his job as Robert Griffin III's security blanket in the passing game. It would be nice to see him on the field before committing a fantasy roster spot to him, but the upside is most definitely there.

Robert Griffin III - RGIII says knee feels great

The Huddle — Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III (knee) said his surgically repaired knee is feeling great and that he hopes to be ready for the start of training camp. He said he will begin explosive sprinting in a few weeks and will begin making cuts a few weeks after that. Griffin did do some running and throwing without hesitation during organized team activities Thursday, May 23. Huddle Up: So far, so good for the player under the most powerful injury microscope this offseason. There's still plenty of time for rehab with more than 3 months before the regular season kicks off, but that a...

Randall Cobb - Pack's Rodgers high on Cobb

The Huddle — Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said he believes WR Randall Cobb can be a receiver that catches at least 100 catches every season. Wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett said Cobb improved last season but still has things to work on to become more productive. Huddle Up: With Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson hurting last season, Cobb took full advantage, making the quantum statistical leap from 25 catches for 375 yards and a TD in his rookie season to 80-954-8 last year. Even a slight improvement again this year should indeed put Cobb close to 100 catches, 1,200 yards and 10-14 TDs.

Delone Carter - Colts' Carter recovering from surgery

The Huddle — Indianapolis Colts RB Delone Carter has not been participating in organized team activities because of recent shoulder surgery. Huddle Up: At the end of the 2012 season , it was an ankle injury that sidelined Carter for the final 4 weeks of the season, and he finished with only 122 yards and 3 TDs on 32 carries. He could see goalline work this season, but should be no better than third fiddle behind Donald Brown and Vick Ballard.

Hakeem Nicks - Nicks absent for 'personal' reasons

The Huddle — Updating previous reports, New York Giants WR Hakeem Nicks has been absent from OTAs because of a personal reason, not because of his contract. Huddle Up: And maybe --just maybe -- Nicks' contract has become a personal issue. In any case, it's left Eli Manning and the Giants without their top 2 receivers for the time being and has given the New York/New Jersey media something to write and talk about with Tim Tebow no longer around.

Percy Harvin - Seahawks will have multiple uses for Harvin

The Huddle — Seattle Seahawks WR Percy Harvin will be used similarly to how he was used by the Minnesota Vikings, in a variety of ways. He'll likely line up in the slot as his regular position, but he'll also be utilized outside and could see handoff and kickoff returns. 'I'll be moving around - pretty much all around,' said the 5-foot-11, 184-pound Harvin. 'There'll be a little bit of running back coming up. But right now, we're just trying to get the foundation set, just running the base plays, and we'll see where it goes from there.' Huddle Up: Harvin's rushing ability is particularly valuable to fanta...

Ramses Barden - WR Barden re-signs with Giants

The Huddle — The New York Giants re-signed WR Ramses Barden to an undisclosed deal Thursday, May 23. Huddle Up: Barden, who had a career season with only 14 receptions for 220 yards last season tested the free-agent waters but found no takers, and now is back with a familiar cast of wideouts in New York, only now with Louis Murphy replacing Domenik Hixon.

Mark Sanchez - Teammates not behind Sanchez?

The Huddle — An anonymous New York Jets player said that the team is skeptical about QB Mark Sanchez and his ability to be successful. 'Everyone on the team likes Mark personally, but there's a general feeling among some of the players that maybe it's time to give someone else a chance.' The player said 80 to 90 percent of the roster agrees with that statement. Sanchez is still trying to figure out the team's new West Coast offense. Huddle Up: Biting words but still anonymous words. In any case, though, the statement does indicate just how bright the spotlight is on Sanchez, who hit 3-year lows in passing...

Trent Richardson - Bronws' Richardson banged up

The Huddle — Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson (leg) is not practicing Thursday, May 23, due to a pulled muscle near his shin. Huddle Up: Even though Richardson toughed out ailments and played 15 games in a solid rookie season, it's a subtle reminder that injury concerns are never far away for the second-year back.

James Casey - Eagles' Casey to have knee surgery

The Huddle — Philadelphia Eagles TE/FB James Casey (knee) will have arthroscopic surgery on his knee and should be ready for training camp. Huddle Up: The Eagles and new coach Chip Kelly have plans for the versatile Casey, a free-agent pickup from the Texans, in the team's new-look offense, and this setback could result in more reps for second-round pick and former Stanford standout TE Zach Ertz once he's cleared to join the team after college graduation.

Nalen made up for all those "no comments" during his 15-year playing career during an extraordinary half hour Thursday, May 23, 2013, that at times showed precisely why he was wise to stay silent rather than speak his mind.
