Adam Dunn playing through back issue

CBSSports.com Fantasy — White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn is not fully healed from the back spasms that flared up Saturday, CSN Chicago reports. But Dunn will continue to play through the issue.  Dunn, who said his problem is more related to fielding, was the DH Wednesday against Boston.  "It takes so long to get loose," Dunn said. "I have to probably go two or three batters before I normally do just to go and get loose again. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same." Chicago is off Thursday before opening a three-game series against Miami Friday.  "Laying down, that hurts it worse and sitting down makes it st...

Jon Lester suffers first defeat

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Jon Lester likely wasn't going to go undefeated this season and on Monday in Chicago he suffered his first loss. Lester fell to 6-1 after being hit hard by the White Sox.  The Red Sox ace gave up a three-run homer to Adam Dunn in the first inning and allowed two more runs in the second. He gave up six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits and three walks over six innings. Lester struck out two and his ERA is 3.15.  The 29-year-old Lester had a 2.72 ERA coming into Monday's start and has struck out 52 over 65 2/3 innings with a 1.07 WHIP and .211 batting average against. Lester is scheduled to m...

Closing Time: White Sox put an end to Red Sox’ win streak; Shane Victorino injures hamstring

Full Count | WEEI — CHICAGO — As well as things had been going for the Red Sox, they sure went the other way in a hurry Monday night at U.S. Cellular Field. Dunn, White Sox get to Lester early in 6-4 win

Chicago Sun-TimesAdam Dunn greeted Red Sox starter Jon Lester with a three-run homer in the first Monday, helping to power the White Sox to a 6-4 victory at U.S. Cellular Field and ending Lester’s undefeated streak. The Sox jumped on Lester in the first after two were out when Alex Rios singled--extending his career best hitting streak to 15 games--before Paul Konerko walked. Dunn’s 11th homer followed, giving him five in the last seven games. The Sox added two runs in the second with two-out doubles from Tyler Greene, Alejandro De Aza...

White Sox bats starting to get healthy

Chicago Sun-Times — Slowly but surely, the White Sox are becoming whole again. Or at least as whole as they can be. They endured a month without second baseman Gordon Beckham and two months without John Danks. They also have been without the production of their two top offensive weapons, Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko. But the last week has seen Dunn start to come alive and Konerko hinting at the same. Plus, Beckham and Danks are expected back soon. Dunn hit a three-run homer in the first inning Monday off Boston Red Sox left-hander Jon Leste...

Adam Dunn’s, Paul Konerko’s offensive struggles costing White Sox dearly

Chicago Sun-Times — First base and designated hitter are positions at which you’d expect big offensive contributions. For the most part, American League Central teams are getting just that. To use Bill James’ runs created calculation, the Tigers are getting 7.3 runs created per 27 outs from Prince Fielder. That means a lineup of nine Fielders would average about 7.3 runs per game, far above the 4.48 runs AL teams are averaging this season. Around the rest of the division, there’s the Twins’ Justin Morneau (5.0), the Indians’ Nick Swisher ...

Adam Dunn wasn't lying after all

Chicago White Sox Blog | ESPN Chicago — CHICAGO – Adam Dunn never stopped saying that he felt comfortable at the plate this season even when the results begged to differ. Dunn kept pressing forward among all the strikeouts and the 0-for-4 days, confident that a hot run was only another day away. Now that he is finally in the midst of that productive offensive stretch, Dunn remains even keel, refusing to feel triumphant now that his timing is back, nor down because much of the first six weeks was a lost cause.

The Takeaway: Lester beat in big spots

Red Sox Blog | Providence Journal — By Tim Britton Paul Beaty/AP Photo CHICAGO -- After repeatedly chastising himself for the 2-0 cutter he left in the middle of the plate to Adam Dunn in Monday's first inning, Jon Lester offered up a reasonable epitaph for the end of Boston's five-game winning streak. "It was just kind of one of those nights," the left-hander said. "One of those nights" was the easiest way to digest a game in which the White Sox scored all six of their runs on two-out hits. Indeed, all but one of Chicago's hits came with two outs. It started in the first. Lester quickly retired the first two White Sox of t...

  • Adam Dunn sees success by looking away
Going back through old clips of Adam Dunn to see if I could see anything ostensibly different about his swing, I came across this homer against Tanner "We Named The Dog" Scheppers on April 30: Steve Stone's commentary caught my ear: We highlighted him before the game as a guy in the last four games who has started to swing the bat a whole lot better. Dunn extended his hitting streak to five with that solo shot, which was the third homer over that period, so nothing that Stone said was wrong. Hindsight just isn't kind to it. Dunn's hitting streak ended the next day, and he fell into a...
  • White Sox 9, Twins 4: Dunn, offense finally explode
On their 38th try of 2013, the White Sox finally scored more than seven runs in a game. Although if Adam Dunn and Alex Rios can keep hitting the way they today, eight runs isn't going to look like such a remarkable accomplishment in a couple weeks. Rios set up Twins pitching, and Dunn knocked it down. Both went 3-for-4, and both were dynamic 3-for-4's. Rios hit three scalded line drives, one for a triple. He also drew a walk, stole a base and scored three runs. He was able to cross the plate thanks to the guy behind him. Dunn hit a pair of homers along with a double, walked, and drove...
