Nats react to Detwiler and LaRoche leaving this offseason

Several Nats players reacted to the departure of Adam LaRoche and Ross Detwiler at this past weekend's NatsFest. Here are the highlights of what they said.

Nats react to Detwiler & LaRoche leaving

For as much talk as there has been about next offseason and the possibility the Nationals could lose some of their most familiar names, that process has already begun this winter. Ross Detwiler, a member of the Nats’ organization for seven years, was traded to the Texas Rangers on Friday. And Adam LaRoche signed with the…

How much will the Nats miss LaRoche?

We had known, really, since late in the season that Adam LaRoche would not be returning to the Nationals in 2015. That common-sense assumption, though, became reality this week when the White Sox announced they signed the veteran first baseman to a 2-year, $25 million contract. The reasons for LaRoche’s departure — and why the…

White Sox introduce Adam LaRoche and their plans for him

First baseman will DH more than he prefers, but that will give him more time to lead The White Sox finally announced their signing of Adam LaRoche on Tuesday afternoon, with the new DH/first baseman flanked by Rick Hahn and Robin Ventura on a conference call. The details: LaRoche will make $12 million in 2015 and $13 million in 2016. Scott Carroll was DFA'd to open the spot on the 40-man roster. It's LaRoche's biggest contract by $1 million, and he said, "I'd be lying if I said the money had nothing to do with it."  Besides the interest the Sox showed in him, he also listed other items...

Addition of Adam LaRoche could be a slow burner for hot stove season

Pessimists say the White Sox settled in signing a 35-year-old first baseman to a two-year deal; optimists say the Sox are set for more big moves When Bob Nightengale tweeted that the White Sox signed Adam LaRoche to a two-year, $25 million deal, it just didn't move me. And then the absence of a reaction led to a negative one. Rick Hahn moves usually register something viscerally, at least since the beginning of the reconstruction. It's not that all his major transactions are capital ideas and critical darlings, but there's a bold concept driving them. The Jake Peavy trade, the Jose Abreu...
