New York Mets Do Have Some Valuable Assets If They Become Sellers

The New York Mets may need to become sellers if they can't right the ship by the All Star Break. General Manager Sandy Alderson does have a lot of veterans he can shop, but the players who can probably bring back the most in a trade are outfielder Jay Bruce, lefty specialist Jerry Blevins, and reliever Addison Reed.

Final Score: Mets 5, Nationals 1—Jacob deGONE!

deGrom belts his first career homer run, Reed gets the save. Tasked with saving the Mets from a series sweep against the division leading Washington Nationals, Jacob deGrom pitched a gem, striking out six over eight innings while only allowing one run. deGrom helped his own cause in the third, hitting his first career home run. deGrom and Travis d’Arnaud also allowed four stolen bases to Nationals shortstop Trea Turner. Addison Reed allowed a double to to Daniel Murphy, but coaxed two line-outs from Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon, finally striking out Matt Wieters to get both the save...

Reed and Blevins could really use a hand

In spring training, the Mets bullpen looked really solid, from top to bottom. But, as the saying goes, “that’s why you play the games.” Closer Jeurys Familia notched 94 saves over the past two seasons while former closer Addison Reed was…Read more →

Mets Morning News: Zack Wheeler continues to shine, Jay Bruce stays hot in Texas

Mets Morning News: Zack Wheeler continues to shine, Jay Bruce stays hot in Texas

Your Thursday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets With the way the Mets’ luck had been going, this was a game they would normally lose. Zack Wheeler pitched a brilliant seven innings, but true to form the bullpen squandered Wheeler’s much-needed outing. With the game tied in the ninth, some shaky Rangers defense allowed the Mets to take the lead, and Addison Reed completed the victory with an easy ninth. Jay Bruce led the offense with two home runs and the Mets leave Texas with a series split. Choose your recap: Amazin’ Avenue short and long,...

Mets Afternoon News: Bullpen blows it again, Cespedes set back

Mets Afternoon News: Bullpen blows it again, Cespedes set back

Your Sunday afternoon dose of Mets and Major League Baseball news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets The Mets’ bullpen blew another game last night, this time to the Pirates, as Addison Reed allowed Pittsburgh to tie the game in the ninth and Josh Edgin gave up a game-ending run in the tenth when he inherited a bad situation that was created by Tyler Pill in his major league debut earlier in the inning. Yoenis Cespedes felt some tightness in his quad as he was playing in a minor league rehab game and was shut down until at least Tuesday. Here’s hoping that delay is relatively minor. In...

Final Score: Pirates 5, Mets 4—Jaso with a one-two punch to the face-o

Final Score: Pirates 5, Mets 4—Jaso with a one-two punch to the face-o

The Mets snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Zack Wheeler tossed six solid innings tonight and the bullpen looked pretty good for a while, but then things fell apart and the Mets lost to the Pirates 5-4 in ten innings. The Mets held a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but Addison Reed allowed a run on three hits and the Pirates sent the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Tyler Pill loaded the bases in his major league debut, and Josh Edgin came on to allow a game-winning single to John Jaso, who had tied the game as a pinch hitter an inning earlier. Jay Bruce got the...

Final Score: Padres 4, Mets 3—Less than stellar

Final Score: Padres 4, Mets 3—Less than stellar

The Mets left a bunch of runners on base and lost a series to the worst team in baseball. The Mets lost the rubber game against the Padres on Thursday night by a score of 4-3. Rafael Montero got the spot start with Jacob deGrom moved back a day, and it predictably did not go well. Montero pitched only three innings, giving up three runs on three walks and five hits with four strikeouts. He threw 87 pitches in just the three innings. The Mets bullpen was able to hold the Padres scoreless from then until the ninth inning, when Addison Reed gave up another run. On offense, Lucas Duda hit a...
