Pettitte forced to keep it inside

New York Daily News — Rain washed away the Yankees' game for the second straight day, forcing Andy Pettitte to follow A.J. Burnett's lead and throw a simulated game on an indoor mound Friday. Unlike Burnett, however, Pettitte had taken part in the same exercise five days earlier.

Open Thread: Washed out

River Ave. Blues — Two straight days without baseball because of rain, what a shame. A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte, the scheduled starters for the last two days, had to throw simulated games instead of facing real live batters. Such is life. Hopefully the rain lets up and we’ll get some games in over the weekend. Here’s your open thread [...]Post from: River Ave. Blues A New York Yankees blogOpen Thread: Washed out

Canceled

Bronx Banter — That’s a term you rarely hear in baseball, but Thursday night’s exhibition game between the Braves and Yankees was rained out, and in spring training, that doesn’t result in the game being merely postponed. It’s canceled. A.J. Burnett threw three innings under simulated conditions to stay on schedule, working in his curve for the first [...]

Open Thread: Yanks take both games

River Ave. Blues — The day didn’t start off so well for Javy Vazquez. On his first pitch of the afternoon, his first live pitch of the spring, Jimmy Rollins took him deep. Perhaps he should compare notes with A.J. Burnett. Thankfully, things went pretty well after that. Vazquez retired the next six hitters he faced, striking out four. Burnett trying to add changeup to repertoire

Journal News — TAMPA, Fla. — One hundred wins into his major-league career, Yankees starter A.J. Burnett is trying to become a different pitcher. Not a drastically different pitcher, just a more versatile, nuanced type of pitcher. The type of pitcher who doesn't have to come strictly with the hard stuff. The type of pitcher who can go to something other than a power fastball or a biting curveball. The type of pitcher who can throw an occasional changeup.

  • Cano ready to move up Journal News Robinson Cano has hit for average and he's hit for power, but for his career, nearly 80 percent of his at-bats have come batting sixth or lower in the batting order. That's going to change this season.
  • Girardi to No. 5 candidates: It's on! Blogging the Bombers | New York Daily News Monday marks the figurative midpoint of the exhibition schedule, as the Yankees have an off-day to relax, regroup and recharge their batteries. Most players have been doing what they need to do in order to be ready for Opening Day, but the five pitchers vying for the fifth starter spot have been trying to balance the need to work on things with the need to put up good numbers. Starting Tuesday, those pitchers better start worrying a little more about results. "Friday we talked to them and told them it’s time to pick it up a little bit," Joe Girardi said. "We’re getting to the point...
  • Everyone loves brackets The LoHud Yankees Blog | Journal News Once upon a time, I followed college basketball as closely as I followed baseball. • Cano ready to take the fifth Blogging the Bombers | New York Daily News When the Yankees resume play on Tuesday, Joe Girardi plans to use what will likely be his Opening Day lineup. Girardi said that while Granderson has more power, Cano’s ability to hit for a much higher average - and significantly lower strikeout rate (He whiffs once every 10.69 at-bats compa...
