No gawking at A-Rod

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — With Alex Rodriguez due to report to Tampa on Monday, the Yankees sent out a release saying that neither fans nor the media will be allowed to witness the rehab work at the minor league complex. They didn't specifically mention A-Rod, but the timing of the reminder seems a little more than coincidental. As a reminder, please note that the practice fields at the Himes Complex in Tampa will be closed to all media and fans for all workouts/rehab assignments being conducted at the facility.

First Pitch: CC's superlative contract

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — There is the prevailing thought that the horror of Alex Rodriguez's 10-year, $275 million contract (plus bonuses) could scare the Yankees into taking a more cautious free-agent approach with Robinson Cano. It certainly might give them some pause, but agent Scott Boras could point to the deal for CC Sabathia as one that has been a great, multiyear, $100-plus million contract for the Yankees. It may just become the greatest free-agent deal the Yankees have ever made.

At the end of the day, A-Rod gets his say

Yankees Blog | ESPN New YorkAlex Rodriguez does get to say if he retires, you know. He may be hated by his own organization and its team's fans, but he has that little piece of paper that guarantees he has a say in the matter of calling it a career. That piece of paper the Yankees gave him in 2007 guarantees him at least five years and $114 million. Plus, if he wants to stick around, there are home run bonuses that add up to $6 million a pop and a total of what could be an extra $30 million.
