Posey ties it, Belt wins it for Giants

San Francisco Chronicle — Posey ties it, Belt wins it for Giants The joke made the rounds even as Brandon Belt was checking his body for serious bruising after the customary pounding a player absorbs after ending a game with a hit. Bochy stuck Belt at first base in the ninth inning in a double switch, and you could almost see this one coming after Andres Torres lined the first pitch of the inning, from lefty reliever Tony Sipp, into left for his second hit. With Bochy's advice swimming in his head, he stayed back on a 1-1 offspeed pitch and sliced it into left-center field for his first walk-off hit since Double-A....

SF Giants beat Padres in 9th, 3-2

San Francisco Chronicle — SF Giants beat Padres in 9th, 3-2 Pagan's one-out double off Luke Gregerson in the ninth inning brought home Andres Torres from second, and the Giants celebrated a 3-2 victory. Giants manager Bruce Bochy liked having Pagan at the plate in that spot. For much of the evening, it appeared Madison Bumgarner would make it so the bottom of the ninth inning wouldn't be needed. At that point, Bumgarner had struck out five hitters in a row, his past six outs were via K's, and he owned nine strikeouts through five innings. Cabrera tagged Brandon Belt, threw to second to get Blanco, and the Giants ...

2013 Giants projections: Tim Lincecum

McCovey Chronicles — Back before the 2009 season started, I got an e-mail from the fellow who helped Andres Torres retool his swing. The gist of the e-mail: Watch out for Andres Torres. He's gonna be good. A similar e-mail today would read, "Cole Gillespie is going to melt your face" or "Tony Abreu: future All-Star." So I filed it away and forgot about it … until Torres became Carlos Beltran with more speed and better defense in 2010. So when a get an e-mail from Mr. O'Leary, I pay just a bit more attention now. And he sent one directing me to his evaluations on Tim Lincecum's mechanics. The post isn't new...

Mets some of MLB's best, worst at baserunning

Newsday — Terry Collins hasn’t had a stolen base threat on his roster since his first season helming the Mets, when he managed Jose Reyes. Andres Torres was the closest thing to a prototypical speedster on the Mets’ 2012 squad, and a combination of injuries and ineffectiveness led to him stealing just 13 bases.
