Yankees lose a game (and possibly two more players)

The LoHud Yankees Blog | Journal News — A Yankees comeback fell short tonight, but a 3-2 loss to the Mariners was not the biggest concern at Yankee Stadium. Andy Pettitte left the game with a tight left trapezius muscle in his upper back, and Chris Stewart left with an apparent lower body injury. Pettitte missed a start last month because of back [...]The post Yankees lose a game (and possibly two more players) appeared first on The LoHud Yankees Blog.

Pregame notes: Where's Andy's cutter?

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — KANSAS CITY -- Andy Pettitte will try to snap a two-game losing streak, and three-game winless streak, tonight against the Royals, a team he has mastered over the course of his career, with a 14-3 lifetime record and 3.44 ERA. But it is not just the Royals Pettitte will be fighting tonight; it is also his own signature pitch, the cutter, that Pettitte will be looking to regain mastery of. After his last two outings, and particularly, a nightmare outing against the Houston Astros in which he allowed seven earned runs in 4-1/3 innings, Pettitte has sounded truly baffled at how his best pitch o...

Andy Pettitte has another poor outing as Yankees fall to A's

Newsday — By the time Boone Logan served up Josh Donaldson's game-winning homer in the eighth inning, the Yankees already had enough to worry about Sunday afternoon. A 5-4 loss to the A's felt like the least of their problems.

Postgame notes: Nuno, Gardner and DPs

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — The Yankees played their worst game of the young season tonight, losing 9-1 to the lowly Houston Astros, and Andy Pettitte pitched his worst game in years. But there were a couple of (minor) positives: • LHP Vidal Nuno, making his major-league debut, threw three scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out two. Nuno is here for long relief, taking the place of David Phelps, who was moved up to the starting rotation when Ivan Nova went on the DL with triceps inflammation.

Postgame Notes: Andy the stopper

Yankees Blog | ESPN New York — The New York Yankees had the right man on the mound to avoid a sweep Thursday. As he has done for most of his Yankees career, Andy Pettitte prevented a season-opening sweep Thursday by pitching eight stellar innings of one-run ball in the Bombers' 4-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. Pettitte is now 18-3 in 27 starts with the Yankees when the opposing team was going for the sweep. "It was important, there's no doubt about it," Pettitte said of the win.

Pettitte's son throws no-hitter, gets congratulated by Yankees pitchers: report

Yankees Blog | New York PostAndy Pettitte is undoubtedly proud of his son, Josh, who has signed a letter of intent to pitch at Baylor, beginning in 2014. And the Yankees southpaw may be a little envious, too. The son of the five-time World Series champion did something on Friday his father has been unable to do in 491 career major-league starts --- throw a no-hitter. As reported by Hall of Very Good, the younger Pettitte struck out 10 and walked only one batter, pitching for his hometown Deer Park (Tx.) High, in a 9-0 win over Boerne (Tx.) Champion High, a traditional state power. "What a fun game to be a part of," the s...
