MLB trade rumors: Could the Red Sox look to acquire Anibal Sanchez or Mike Pelfrey to improve pitching depth?

MLB trade rumors: Could the Red Sox look to acquire Anibal Sanchez or Mike Pelfrey to improve pitching depth?

A detailed analysis of whether the Red Sox would be interested in either Tigers starter. With David Price currently dealing with an elbow injury that may require surgery, the Boston Red Sox are looking to add starting pitching depth prior to Opening Day, according to Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. The Detroit Tigers may look to unload either Anibal Sanchez or Mike Pelfrey as spring training draws to a close. Could Old Friend Anibal Sanchez Be On Red Sox Radar?

Could Old Friend Anibal Sanchez Be On Red Sox Radar?

Anibal SanchezHe's given up 59 HRs in the last two years. In 2016, he posted a 5.87 ERA in 26 starts for the Detroit Tigers. He was originally drafted by the Red Sox and was part of the blockbuster 2005 deal that sent Hanley Ramirez to the Marlins for Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell. His name is Anibal Sanchez—and for some unfathomable reason he may be a trade target for Boston. In 2012, then Detroit GM Dave Dombrowski honcho acquired Sanchez. Could DD's comfort level with the 33-year-old righty allow him to take a risk on Sanchez again? Let's hope not!

But here comes Sanchez with eight scoreless innings and Pelfrey with a slightly better breaking ball (I guess.) The Pelfrey inclusion was a joke, but if Sanchez looks good in his last two starts the Tigers will have a legitimately difficult choice on who to select. Boyd does have an option left so he could...
