Yankees 5, Indians 4: Austin Romine’s Little League home run wins it for the Bombers

Yankees 5, Indians 4: Austin Romine’s Little League home run wins it for the Bombers

Didi Gregorius and Greg Bird go deep as the Yankees keep pace with the Red Sox in the AL East. This game had a little bit of everything. It was long balls versus small ball for awhile, but Cleveland’s two errors on Austin Romine’s seventh-inning double proved the difference in the contest. The Yankees defeated the Indians 5-4 at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Brett Gardner got the game started in the same way he has so many times before. The team’s spark plug drew a six-pitch walk, Aaron Judge followed with a single, and Didi Gregorius crushed his 17th home run of the year to give...

NYY News: Under Gray Skies

Sonny Gray is not good; Gleyber Torres probably won’t return until after All-Star break; Yankees rumored to be interested in Mike Moustakas; Justus Sheffield to pitch in the Future’s Game MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: So hey, let’s just get this out of the way right now shall we? Sonny Gray is bad. Sonny Gray is bad no matter if Austin Romine or Gary Sanchez or probably Kyle Higashioka is catching. Gray’s maddening inconsistent pitching is becoming consistently maddening. Every time we think he takes a step forward, he takes two steps back and falls down the stairs. Sonny Gray has started...

Austin Romine going for precautionary MRI on hamstring

Well this isn’t good. Austin Romine is going for a precautionary MRI on his left hamstring tonight, the Yankees say. He was removed from tonight’s game in the seventh inning with tightness in the hamstring. There wasn’t an obvious play where he got hurt. Seems like it just tightened up on him as he squatted […] The post Austin Romine going for precautionary MRI on hamstring appeared first on River Avenue Blues.

Austin Romine leaves Yankees game with hamstring tightness

Austin Romine leaves Yankees game with hamstring tightness

Hopefully this is not a serious injury. Austin Romine exited tonight’s Yankees-Red Sox game early, which seemed perfectly normal given the 11-0 score. However, after the game, Aaron Boone announced that Romine was removed because he is dealing with hamstring tightness. Boone went on to say that the Yankees are monitoring the injury, and are not sure if he will be available for tomorrow’s game. According to Marc Carig, he will get an MRI. Who’s ready for everyday catcher Kyle Higashioka? Romine, 29, assumed the everyday catching responsibilities when Gary Sanchez hit the disabled list...

Losing Gary Sanchez hurts, but the Yankees should be fine

Losing Gary Sanchez hurts, but the Yankees should be fine

If the Yankees stick to their initial timetable, they should be able to smoothly move on from their franchise catcher’s injury. When Gary Sanchez went down with a groin strain, the Yankees lost a tremendous player. He has had a disappointing season — hitting just .191 — but his on-base skills, power, and strong arm and framing still make him extremely valuable behind the plate. Going forward, he is unquestionably one of the best backstops in the game. Losing him stings. Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka cannot compare. That being said, Sanchez’s injury is probably not a huge...

The Yankees need to know who is the real Austin Romine

The Yankees need to know who is the real Austin Romine

With Sanchez set to miss time, this is Romine’s chance to shine I’ve never been one to shy away from criticizing about Austin Romine. This was a player who never really did anything and was designated for assignment by the Yankees in 2015. He came backd because nobody else wanted him. Why should I get excited about Romine? In 2016, he only won the job to backup Brian McCann because John Ryan Murphy was traded to the Twins and Gary Sanchez had a poor spring. The job literally fell into his lap because there was no other choice. It was easy to see why I didn’t care about Romine, he was...

Yankees option Clint Frazier to Triple-A, call up Giovanny Gallegos

Yankees send Frazier back to Scranton. The Yankees officially placed Gary Sanchez on the 10-day disabled list earlier, and called up Kyle Higashioka to back up Austin Romine for the time being. Sanchez suffered a right groin strain during yesterday’s extra innings loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. That wasn’t the only roster move of the day, though. They also announced that Clint Frazier has been optioned to Triple-A. As the corresponding move, Giovanny Gallegos will join the bullpen, likely because Luis Cessa was tapped to start Wednesday’s game. This move comes just days after Aaron...
