Mariners Moose Tracks, 6/18/18: Ichiro, Billy Hamilton, & Nick Vincent

It’s gonna be a gorgeous Monday in Seattle, so get link’d up first! Good morning and welcome to a Monday off-day. Gross, right? Well, I guess it’s not THAT bad. For one thing, the Mariners deserve a day off, just like all hard-workin’ folk do. The Mariners put in some good work this last week, going 5-2 against the Angels and Red Sox. And today they get a day of rest before playing the Yankees in the den of inequity known as new Yankee Stadium. Because this is 2018 and everything is bonkers, I feel shockingly confident in the Mariners chances. More like AL Least, in my humble...

Billy Hamilton showed on Sunday why the Reds stick with him

Billy Hamilton’s performance on Sunday illustrated why the Reds stick with him despite his offensive struggles. Billy Hamilton has never lived up to the hype since coming to the big leagues. His athleticism and speed have never been in question. The biggest question mark surrounding Hamilton since his debut in 2013 was his ability […] Billy Hamilton showed on Sunday why the Reds stick with him - Blog Red Machine - Blog Red Machine - A Cincinnati Reds Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Billy Hamilton’s big day leads Reds to rare win over Cardinals

Eleven walks and some timely hitting sure helped, too. The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game Billy Hamilton has had his share of struggles so far in 2018. Of course, he’s also had the shares of about five other players, too, but on Sunday he showed the kind of tantalizing upside that has kept him in the Cincinnati Reds lineup for years despite those otherwise obvious limitations. He tripled, walked, scored twice, took an extra base on a wild pitch that nobody else would have, threw out a pair of runners from CF, and added not one, but two leaping catches at the CF wall for...

It looks like Jim Riggleman is benching Jesse Winker, which is really, really dumb

It looks like Jim Riggleman is benching Jesse Winker, which is really, really dumb

The Reds’ four-man outfield rotation lasted all of just two months. Its demise was catalyzed by exactly the kind of short-sighted ass-headed decision that can hamstring the hell out of this rebuild. Before today’s game, manager Jim Riggleman announced that Adam Duvall, Billy Hamilton, and Scott Schebler will be your full-time starting outfield for now with Jesse Winker sitting the bench. Four-man outfield is a three-man outfield for now. Riggleman says #Reds will play Schebler and Duvall to see if they can get going. Hamilton will continue in CF— John Fay (@johnfayman) May 30,...

Reds offense fails Luis Castillo’s only bad May start, lose 5-2 to Diamondbacks

Reds offense fails Luis Castillo’s only bad May start, lose 5-2 to Diamondbacks

Castillo allowed more than 2 earned for the first time all month, which is exactly 1 more than the Reds offense could defend. The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game Chicks, and Red Reporter, dig the long ball, so I guess Eugenio Suarez gets the trophy? He launched his 10th tater of the year (which accounted for his RBI and run scored and hit). He’s good. Scooter Gennett hit safely once and also scored a run on a ground out, while Joey Votto hit twice and probably should’ve had an RBI. I dunno, pick one... Honorable Mention to Billy Hamilton, who hit twice and my goodness did...

What’s up with the speediest guy in the game? The lenses in a decent pair of sunglasses allow you to keep from both squinting and going blind when you look at all in the sun’s direction. There’s a large part of me that wishes there was a comparable lens I could use to prevent those things from happening when I look at Billy Hamilton’s 2018 stats, too. The speedy Cincinnati Reds CF has now logged 49 games played in this, the fifth full season in which he’s been a pillar of the team’s lineup, and while we’ve long hoped that his offensive development would finally begin to yield...
