Angels: 4 Rays: 9 - A Wendle-ful Return

Snell Struggles, but Choi & Co. come through Is it too early to start worrying? Will the Rays ever win again?! Hard to say, but they would certainly try, with Blake Snell on the mound to help his team break a 3 game losing streak and 2nd series in a row. Rays would also have a familiar face back in the lineup. Series Preview: Angels @ Rays (Opening Time)

Series Preview: Angels @ Rays (Opening Time)

The Battle of the Openers Begins Angels (33-35) @ Rays (41-26) I asked Ashley MacLennan of DRays Bay to give us some insight on the Rays: The Rays are headed into this weekend’s 4-game series having gone 6-4 over their last 10, and dropping two of three to the A’s in an home series to start the week. In fact, the location of the Trop is likely a boon to the Angels, as the Rays have and 18-16 record at home as opposed to their very strong 23-10 road numbers. The pitching rotation is up in the air right now, but I’d expect to see both Blake Snell and Charlie Morton used in this...

The Cincinnati Reds have had an ace in Luis Castillo for a full calendar year

He’s been legitimately ace-ish for 12 months running. ‘Jacob deGrom and Blake Snell had pretty stellar 2018 seasons,’ said the deadpan author as he buried the lede. Snell, of course, saw his brilliant 1.89 ERA across some 180.2 IP earn him the American League Cy Young Award, his 80% share of the voting total indicative of just how well the Tampa Bay Rays ace walloped his opponents all year. In a similar fashion, deGrom breezed to his first National League Cy Young Award with some 99% share of the voting, modern BBWAA voters finally able to look past a meager 10-9 record at more...

Rays 6 Red Sox 1: Snells like first place (at least a tie)

Rays 6 Red Sox 1: Snells like first place (at least a tie)

Snell battled through six innings and Rays hitters belted four home runs to win the series The Rays and Red Sox faced off in the final game of their three-day, four game series. Blake Snell was looking to bounce back from one of his least impressive starts. For the Red Sox, the 26 year lefty Eduardo Rodriguez had the start. Rodriguez came in with a 4.88 ERA, but his 3.55 FIP suggested he’d encountered some bad luck this season. Coming into this game it seemed likely that the Rays could score a few against Rodriguez; the question was whether Snell would rebound after his very poor...

Rays at Red Sox lineups for a sunny Sunday, with Blake Snell on the mound

Blake Snell was pretty hard on himself, maybe too hard according to some Rays folks, after struggling in his last outing on Tuesday in Detroit.Snell said he learned a few things from it, and plans to make a few adjustments today when he takes on the Red Sox, specifically throwing

OTM Open Thread 6/9: It is Sunday

Happy Sunday everyone. The Red Sox got off to a tough start in this series against the Rays but have a chance to salvage a split if they can win on a Sunday. It’ll be a tough test for what has been, at best, an inconsistent offense of late as they face off against reigning Cy Young winner Blake Snell. The Red Sox counter with Eduardo Rodriguez. Then, later in the night, the Bruins play with their backs against the wall as they try to force a Game Seven against St. Louis in the Stanley Cup Finals. Use this space to discuss whatever you’d like. As always, just be nice to each other.

View from the Catwalk: Snell rocked in Detroit

It was going good, until it wasn’t Last night, the Tampa Bay Rays losing ways continued as they fell, 9-6, to the Detroit Tigers. Blake Snell had overcome a rough couple of innings and appeared to be dominating until he ran into a buzzsaw during a fifth inning that eventually concluded Snell’s night on the mound, as he would give up a grand slam to Miguel Cabrera. The positives for the Rays were low, but Avisail Garcia homered in his return to the lineup and Austin Meadows doubled. Willy Adames launched a grand slam of his own in the 8th, and that’d be it for the Rays...

Oh so this is the time Vintage Miggy decides to show up! Tigers 9, Rays 6: What knee problems?

Tigers 9, Rays 6: What knee problems?

Yeah, that’s a weird headline. That’s baseball. Baseball is weird. Seriously. Nothing about this game made sense. These were the feeble Detroit Tigers, returning home where they last lost nine (possibly 10) games in a row, to face the hot and ready Tampa Bay Rays. The Tigers were sending out the woeful Ryan Carpenter to face off against the reigning American League Cy Young winner, Blake Snell. Oh, and before the game, it was just announced that Miguel Cabrera has a chronically old knee and would be relegated to the designated hitter spot for the foreseeable future. Naturally, the...

Rays' 9-6 loss to Tigers is fourth straight, with Blake Snell giving up grand slam to Miguel Cabrera

DETROIT - Injuries have hurt, even the supposedly minor nagging ones, in limiting the potency of the lineup. Though manager Kevin Cash doesn't want to agree, the taxing schedule seems to be wearing on them.Something is different, if not wrong, with the Rays.
