SAN DIEGO -- The Mets are due to face a left-hander, Roenis Elias, in Monday’s series opener in Seattle. The final two games of the series, though, Terry Collins is planning to use Bobby Abreu as the designated hitter. Jose Abreu wins rookie honor again

CHICAGO -- For the second time in three months, Chicago White Sox slugger Jose Abreu has been named American League rookie of the month. Abreu nabbed the June honor by batting .313 with 10 home runs, 22 RBIs and a .667 slugging percentage in 25 games. He was given the rookie honor in the opening month of the season, in addition to winning the American League player of the month honor in March/April. The 27-year-old native of Cuba became the first White Sox player to win rookie of the month twice in a season.
