Brandon Nimmo could be Mets’ fifth outfielder for 2017

A hamstring injury might delay the start of his season. If not for a hamstring injury he suffered during a World Baseball Classic game, Brandon Nimmo would probably be a near lock to make the Mets’ Opening Day roster. The outfielder is one of many on the Mets’ 40-man roster, but given the context of all of the other players in that mix, Nimmo’s role would seem fairly clear, at least to start the season. If it seems like Nimmo has been with the Mets forever, that might be because this June will mark the sixth anniversary of the day the team drafted him in the first round with the 13th...

Mets announce exhibition game vs. Las Vegas 51s, move Army game to Queens

Tickets will be $10 for the 11 a.m. first pitch, and proceeds will go to the Mets Foundation. Also, New York’s scheduled exhibition match against Army on March 31 will now take place at Citi Field in Queens instead of West Point, New York. Mets injury update: Brandon Nimmo could return to action this weekend

The outfielder had pulled a hamstring playing for Team Italy in the WBC. Brandon Nimmo’s hamstring strain is not as serious as initially thought, and he should be able to return to Grapefruit League action as soon as this Saturday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. Nimmo initially suffered a Grade 1 strain of his hamstring on Sunday while chasing down a triple in center field for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. He was initially expected to miss a few weeks, but that has changed. The positive news is huge for Nimmo, who is fighting for a job on the Mets’ Opening Day...

Mets Morning News: Matt Harvey’s fastball still lacking velocity, Citi Field could host some hockey

Mets Morning News: Matt Harvey’s fastball still lacking velocity, Citi Field could host some hockey

Your Thursday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets Matt Harvey struggled against the Marlins and the Mets lost as a result by a score of 6-2. Harvey’s fastball once again dipped into the lower 90s, and it might be a while until the velocity returns. The Dark Knight will need to use brains over brawn and learn how to pitch with diminished velocity, much like Jacob deGrom did early last season. Tim Tebow had his most productive day since his arrival in camp. He went 2-3 at the plate and made a diving grab at the wall in right field. Brandon Nimmo is...
