New York Mets: Brandon Nimmo having all time great Mets season

He may not have had a lot of attention at the start of the year, but New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo is having one of the best seasons in franchise history. Heading into the 2018 campaign, there was little reason to think that Brandon Nimmo was more than a fourth outfielder for the New […] New York Mets: Brandon Nimmo having all time great Mets season - Call to the Pen - Call to the Pen - A Major League Baseball Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Mets shut out by Phillies as Syndergaard struggles

Mets shut out by Phillies as Syndergaard struggles

The Mets lost the series finale in Philadelphia in uninspiring fashion. With the way the Mets have played over the past few weeks, it wouldn’t be fair to say they’ve been mailing it in. But if you’ve been mailing it in as a fan, well, you didn’t miss much in the team’s loss to the Phillies on Wednesday night. In the last meeting between the two teams in 2018, the Mets just didn’t do much. Aside from Amed Rosario, who went 3-for-4 and is now hitting .260/.298/.393 on the season, the offense just didn’t do much. Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, and Brandon Nimmo had one hit apiece, but...

Final Score: Phillies 5, Mets 2-Bullpen blow up

The bullpen was dreadful in the sixth inning. Steven Matz was the star of the show but once he was out of the game it fell apart quickly and the Mets fell to the Phillies 5-2. Even Matz was not at his best but he kept Philadelphia off the board through five innings. He helped his own cause with some nifty glovework and he put the Mets on the board with a solo shot off Aaron Nola. Dominic Smith drove in the other run off Nola when he doubled home Brandon Nimmo. Nola did not make it through six innings and his ERA did go up a smidgen to 2.44. Once both starters were out of the game it became...

Phillies can’t handle Scooter as Mets win easily

Michael Conforto’s big day led the Mets to a 9-4 win. Michael Conforto put the league on notice in a 9-4 win over the Phillies. Conforto led the Mets with three hits, his 26th home run of the year, and six RBI, picking up Zack Wheeler, who allowed four runs in seven innings in what might be his final start of the season. Jeff McNeil and Brandon Nimmo were also bright sptos - McNeil had yet another three hit game, and Nimmo had a double and a walk. Early in the game, everything was coming up Mets. Wheeler looked dominant through the first four innings, allowing only a walk to Carlos...

Player Meter: Position players, September 10-16

A quick review of how the Mets’ position players fared over the past week. As a team, the Mets had a pretty good week overall. They took three out of four from the Miami Marlins and lost a series to the Boston Red Sox, but played competitively in all three games. The Mets’ young players—namely Michael Conforto, Amed Rosario, and Brandon Nimmo continue to carry the offense. Jay Bruce also had his second good week in a row, while Austin Jackson and Wilmer Flores continue to scuffle at the plate. The second half resurgence of Michael Conforto continued in a big way this...

Final Score: Red Sox 5, Mets 3—Bullpen can’t hold in Boston

Final Score: Red Sox 5, Mets 3—Bullpen can’t hold in Boston

A big fifth inning against Paul Sewald lifted the Red Sox over the Mets. The Mets dropped the middle game of their series against the Red Sox on Saturday by a score of 5-3. The Red Sox jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on against Corey Oswalt, who was making the spot start. But Brandon Nimmo turned the game around in the fourth inning with a three-run jack, his 17th homer of the season, to give the Mets a 3-1 lead, and sent the large contingent of Mets fans in attendance into a frenzy. Unfortunately though, the party didn’t last long. Oswalt was pulled after 2.2 innings and 61 pitches,...
