Colin Rea wins major league debut as Padres beat Reds 11-6

Colin Rea's much-anticipated major league debut was fun for the whole family, as long as none of your relatives are Reds fans. The San Diego offense exploded for 11 runs in the first three innings and Rea did his part, limiting Cincinnati to three runs in his five innings of work. Rea permitted the first two Reds to reach base, then induced a weak ground ball just seconds after radio team Bob Scanlan and Randy Jones requested one. He started the 1-6-3 double play, then stranded Brandon Phillips at third as Todd Frazier flied out to right. His second inning was less eventful as he recorded...

Game Notes: Colon vs Archer

The Infamous Montreal Expos Trade Comes Full Circle Its been thirteen long years since the Montreal Expos made the fateful decision to trade away several of the game's top prospects (Grady Sizemore, Brandon Phillips, and Cliff Lee) in exchange for the Cleveland Indian's ace, Bartolo Colon. Since that time, the Expos have relocated and the prospects they dealt away have blossomed into some of the game's best. It's funny how the game of baseball works as Brandon Phillips would be again traded, this time to Cincinatti for Jeff Stevens, who in turn would be later dealt to the Chicaco Cubs for...

Reds 15, Pirates 5 - Brandon Phillips has monster 2 HR night to pace Cincinnati

Hot dang, that's some offense. The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game Brandon Phillips put on a show on Thursday night, as the veteran 2B bonked 2 homers, stole 2 bases, had a 4 hit evening, and drove in a sugar-upping 7 runs.  The entire Cincinnati Reds offense blasted Pittsburgh Pirates starter A.J. Burnett, the Buccos bullpen, and the outfield seats, but it was Phillips who had a night for the ages.  I suppose it's comforting to note that Reds that aren't enveloped in trade talk and appear to be around for awhile when bonkers on the evening, right? Have a trophy, BP, and...

Matt Holliday leaves game with right quad strain

In the first inning of Wednesday night's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium, Matt Holliday dug into the batter's box. Matt Carpenter, who had worked a walk, led off first. Holliday hit a tapper that third baseman Todd Frazier fielded and tossed to second base, retiring Carpenter. But Carpenter did not go down with a slide, obstructing Brandon Phillips's throw enough to allow Holliday to reach first safely—if he had made it to the bag. Holliday pulled up lame while attempting to beat out the relay throw of the potential double play and never touched...
