Comeback attempt thwarted after Hader allows late homer, Brewers lose to Dodgers 6-5

Comeback attempt thwarted after Hader allows late homer, Brewers lose to Dodgers 6-5

Box Score Hoppy Easter! It wasn’t the most memorable one for left-hander Josh Hader, who has looked positively human lately. A late comeback by the Milwaukee Brewers went for naught after Hader failed to preserve a tie ballgame in the ninth inning of today’s series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Brandon Woodruff started the game and put the Crew in a deep hole early on. Woodruff has had some Jekyll and Hyde syndrome in the season’s early going and today was one of the bad outings. He began the contest by allowing a home run to Joc Pederson, then yielded another run later in...

Milwaukee Brewers to option Corbin Burnes, Jake Petricka to San Antonio

Donnie Hart recalled, and Alex Wilson returns from paternity leave As everyone who reads BCB probably already knows, the optimism from the Brewers’ organization around Corbin Burnes going into the starting rotation was high. In fact, it was for Brandon Woodruff and Freddy Peralta as well. However you got the sense the expectations were just a little higher for Burnes, and they probably still are. Unfortunately, the young right hander had a really, really bad problem with the long ball. In four starts, he gave up eleven home runs. If he had given up a third home run in his last start...

Cain, Grandal, and Yelich lift off as the Brewers beat the Cardinals 8-4

Strong pitching and hitting performance from Brandon Woodruff. Tonight’s game went well for the Milwaukee Brewers. Christian Yelich hit another 3-run homer. Lorenzo Cain and Yasmani Grandal went deep too. Brandon Woodruff continued to demonstrate proficiency with the bat, and he pitched well on top of that. He was even able to avoid shaming from PETA by missing as opposed hitting the passing bird (a la Randy Johnson). This bird lives to see another day after nearly getting the Randy Johnson treatment... #TimeToFly (away from home plate, please) pic.twitter.com/fXjLzduSiD— FOX Sports...

Milwaukee Brewers: Brandon Woodruff Also Contributing at the Plate

The Milwaukee Brewers have been one of the National League’s best offensive teams for the last couple years now. This year, they are finding offense from even the most unlikely of sources. Finding themselves in a pinch hit situation in the bottom of the 4th inning of Monday night’s game against the Cardinals, the Milwaukee […] Milwaukee Brewers: Brandon Woodruff Also Contributing at the Plate - Reviewing the Brew - Reviewing the Brew - A Milwaukee Brewers Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Like it or not, the Milwaukee Brewers have little choice other than to be patient with their three young starters

There isn’t really anyone else to run out there right now. The MLB regular season is still quite young, obviously, but there is really no two ways about it. Milwaukee’s vaunted trio of young starting pitchers have not performed well through three turns of the starting rotation. Brandon Woodruff has the strongest peripherals of the group, putting together a 20:4 K/BB ratio and 2.55 FIP across 15.0 innings. But he’s also allowing a 55% hard contact rate and has been seemingly undone by ‘one bad inning’ in each of his three starts, adding up to an ERA of 6.00 so far. Freddy Peralta...

Brewers fall back to Earth, lose 4-2 to get swept by Trout-less Angels

Christian Yelich collects two RBI in the loss Milwaukee faced the possibility of being swept for the first time since they were swept in a five game series last year in Pittsburgh just prior to the All Star break. The good news for the Brewers was that the best player on the planet was not in the Angels’ lineup. Even more good news, Brandon Woodruff was dominant over five innings. The bad news was Woodruff pitched six innings. The third inning proved to be the bugaboo for the young fireballer, and the Brewers as they lost this game 4-2. Thus allowing the Angels to complete the...

Brandon Woodruff (1-0, 6.00 ERA) vs. Felix Pena (0-1, 5.40 ERA) It has been a long time since the Brewers lost a series. Unfortunately, with their loss last night, they’ve guaranteed that to be the case. Now the Brew Crew will try to keep from being swept by the Los Angeles Angels. Brandon Woodruff will be the first “out getter” up for Milwaukee while the Angels will send Felix Pena to the mound. The Brewers will give Mr. Yelich a break from the field and DH tonight. Eric Thames gets the start at first. Here's the #Brewers lineup for the series finale in Anaheim. #ThisIsMyCrew...
