Astros send Brett Wallace to Triple-A

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Astros have sent first baseman Brett Wallace to Triple-A. A former top prospect, Wallace has failed to settle in with the Astros since he was acquired in 2010. In 26 plate appearances to start the year, he's struck out 65.4 percent of the time. Wallace will attempt to fix things in the minors, but it may be too late for him to play his way into significant playing time in the majors again.

Brett Wallace optioned to Oklahoma City; Brandon Laird recalled

Houston Chronicle — The Astros have sent first baseman/third baseman Brett Wallace to Oklahoma City and called up infielder Brandon Laird, the team announced. To make room on the 40-man roster for Laird, the team designated LHP Xavier Cedeno for assignment. Wallace, a former first-round draft pick of St. Louis, was batting .042 with just one hit in 24 at-bats. Laird, 25, hit .353 in 12 games for Oklahoma City with two home runs and 14 RBI.  In 29 spring training games with the Astros,  Laird hit .328  with five home runs and 12 RBI with a .609 slugging pct.
