The Rundown: What to Make of John Lackey’s Rough Start, Manny Machado Head-Hunting Incident

“I don’t care about the series right now. I’m pissed.” So went the terse assessment from John Lackey, who was roughed up for 5 earned runs as the Cubs dropped the series finale in Cincinnati on Sunday. Making matters worse was the futility of their bats against soft-tossing Bronson Arroyo. It’s been a really strange 2017 … The post The Rundown: What to Make of John Lackey’s Rough Start, Manny Machado Head-Hunting Incident appeared first on Cubs Insider.

Oh right, those Cubs. Reds win 7-5

Oh right, those Cubs. Reds win 7-5

Lots of errors and some good pitching get the Reds ahead. The Joe Nuxhall Memorial Honorary Star of the Game I’ve been very impressed with Wandy Peralta so far. He’s been more than a LOOGY in Price’s wacky new bullpen, and he’s struck out 12 of 25 batters he’s faced so far. Today he came in with two on and no out with the Cubs threatening to ruin another day in Cincinnati. He let up a productive grounder and two strikeouts to keep the Cubs at bay. Good for you Wandy. Here’s to many more. Honorable mentions to Bronson Arroyo for going 6IP, 3H, 2ER, 0BB, 7K and getting his second...

Cubs outmuscled as Cincy sweep bid denied

It's been a rough first few weeks of the season for Reds right fielder Scott Schebler. Reds 7, Cubs 5: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Reds 7, Cubs 5: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This game made no sense. The Cubs didn’t appear to have the right game plan for this one, a 7-5 loss to the Reds. Kyle Schwarber leading off the game? Out on one pitch. Kris Bryant, following Schwarber? Out on one pitch. Anthony Rizzo managed to stretch Bronson Arroyo all the way to five pitches before he, too, made an out. With a guy throwing 68 mile-per-hour curveballs, why wouldn’t you be a little more patient and wait for better pitches to hit? Rizzo got one in the fourth inning after a single by Bryant and smacked a two-run homer [VIDEO]. Your browser does not support HTML5...

Reds vs. Cubs, Game 3: Preview/Predictions Thread

Cincinnati Reds vs. Chicago Cubs 1:10 PM ET Bronson Arroyo vs. John Lackey John Lackey is a total butt, and the Cubs are total butts, so hopefully the Reds can take advantage of the buttiness today and avoid the sweep. Lackey has a 4.00 ERA this year, but he butted it up with a 5.35 ERA in 4 starts against the Reds in 2016. He served up 3 home runs in his last outing against the Brewers, and then showed his butt when he gave a wink-nod answer to the press insinuating Eric Thames and PED use. Total butt, that one. Arroyo has gotten better through each start, though still not exactly what...
