Ex-Tigers reliever Casey Fien can relate with Casper Wells' travels

Detroit Free Press — Right-handed reliever Casey Fien had a well-traveled spring with the Tigers in 2010. But not one as crazy as his former roommate Casper Wells, who was with four big-league clubs in April.

Newest Sox Wells ready to settle in

Chicago White Sox Blog | ESPN Chicago — ARLINGTON, Texas -- When newly-acquired corner outfielder Casper Wells joined the Chicago White Sox before Tuesday’s series opener against the Texas Rangers, he donned the uniform of his fourth major league team this spring. Four teams, all in the American League, in the space of five weeks. “It is a record?’’ Wells said. “I don’t know. “I’d like to say I’m getting used to it. I’ve met a lot of teammates,’’ said Wells, who is good-natured about his travels.

Casper Wells' road to Chicago is all rest stops

South Side Sox — Following Mariners fans like Jeff Sullivan, Dave Cameron and the new Lookout Landing guys on Twitter, I get the idea that "Casper Wells" is less of a ballplayer and more of a martyr; the victim of the kind of decision-making that led the Mariners to be where they are now. Wells himself isn't particularly noteworthy as a ballplayer, but it's the circumstances that make him a cause célèbre among the Seattle Internet set. First of all, he came to the Mariners from Detroit in the Doug Fister trade -- a trade that the Tigers won many times over. The Mariners were already hard-pressed to wri...

Casper Wells designated for assignment for third time in less than one month

Mariners Blog | Seattle Times — This might come as a surprise to some folks, but it really isn't. The Oakland Athletics today designated former Mariners outfielder Casper Wells for assignment so they could bring back Yoenis Cespedes off the disabled list. The A's now have 10 days to trade, release or outright Wells to the minors. What Wells was to the A's was a $100,000 insurance policy -- the money Oakland paid Toronto for his services via trade -- just in case the Cespedes injury left them short in the outfield. Wells made just one start and finished 0-for-5 at the plate, which really doesn't tell us much about how he migh...

A's not ready to start Casper Wells

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Despite a left-hander on the hill Wednesday, Athletics manager Bob Melvin opted to keep Casper Wells out of the starting lineup against the Red Sox. Melvin said he wants Wells, who was recently acquired from the Blue Jays in a trade, to work on his swing in batting practice before he puts him in the lineup.

Casper Wells could be temporary help

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Athletics outfielder Casper Wells, acquired from the Blue Jays Monday, is expected to spell Seth Smith and see playing time against left-handed pitchers, MLB.com reports. He could start Wednesday for the A's.  Manager Bob Melvin said he was "mildly concerned" that Wells has not played a game in a month. "You'd like someone to be current," Melvin said, "but he's here for a reason." Wells could be odd man out once Yoenis Cespedes returns from the disabled list.

  • Pryor to DL with Torn Lat Muscle, Casper Wells DFA'd by Toronto
The injuries continue to pile up, as Stephen Pryor now hits the disabled list with a torn latissimus dorsi muscle. It's an injury behind his right shoulder, and its not going to heal quickly. A few years back, Jake Peavy had the same injury, and he missed 10 months. Roy Halladay had just a strain of the same muscle last season and missed 7 weeks. Gulp. It's safe to say Pryor is going to be out for a while, which is a big hit to the bullpen that is suddenly razor thin on right-handed relievers. Only Carter Capps remains outside of Wilhelmsen to pitch in any sort of high leverage situat...
  • Analyzing the Jays Claim of Casper Wells (How to Construct a Quality Bench)
So way back on Friday(April 5th 2013) I wrote a piece imploring the Jays to pick up Mariners outfielder Casper Wells (who had been designated for assignment on March 31) off waivers.  I only had to wait 5 extra days, but yesterday (Wednesday April 10th 2013) that is the exact move that took place.  However, that was more than worth the wait, because the effects of this move I believe could be wide reaching on many different aspects of the team. Before we get into those aspects, lets first take a look at the player. Mr. Wells is not a complete player, however he possesses many assets, which if ...

Farewell, friendly ghost. Sorry about that terrible nickname that will follow you wherever you go. Did you know that Casper the Friendly Ghost's last name is McFadden? Now you do. Maybe Canadians don't know about old ghost cartoons. They probably do. Casper Wells has been claimed by the Toronto Blue Jays, so that's that. The Mariners had to make a decision on Wells today, and apparently Toronto made it for them. Toronto's outfield is full of Jose Bautista, Colby Rasmus, and Melky Cabrera, with Rajai Davis being the primary backup. I'm guessing the team is losing patience with Colby Ras...
