Rockies news and links for August 11, 2018 Why Nolan Arenado isn’t the Sandblaster for Players’ Weekend | Rox PileEarlier this week, all 30 of Major League Baseball’s teams unveiled their players’ jersey nicknames for Players’ Weekend. Some of the most unique for the Colorado Rockies are “Lettuce” for Chad Bettis, “오승환” for Seunghwan Oh (that’s Oh’s name in Korean), “El Yolo” for Gerardo Parra, and “Mr. Duck” for the University of Oregon product Tyler Anderson. The Colorado Rockies sent down the wrong catcher

Yesterday, the Colorado Rockies finally stopped carrying three catchers.  Unfortunately, they sent down the wrong catcher. In order to activate Chad Bettis for his start, the Colorado Rockies optioned Tom Murphy back to Triple-A. Before the roster move, Murphy had slid into the starter’s role. Pirates 10, Rockies 2: Big innings cost Rockies in blowout loss

This one got away and stayed lopsided. The Colorado Rockies got blown out by the Pittsburgh Pirates by a final score of 10-2 on Tuesday night. It was cool to see Chad Bettis on the mound against Jameson Taillon given their respective journeys, but the Pirates’ starter ultimately cruised while his counterpart got roughed up. Taillon throws a complete game For however much the perception of Coors Field goes over the top sometimes, it is still hugely impressive to go into that park and throw a complete game. Taillon gave up just two runs but it he had to navigate some traffic. He scattered...

Bettis came undone in the fourth as Josh Harrison started the bleeding off with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0, then Jordy Mercer hit a three-run blast 443 feet to center field to make it a 5-0 Pittsburgh advantage.
