Chone Figgins an option for Cubs?

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Cubs manager Dale Sveum told ESPN.com Saturday that because Ian Stewart will begin the season on the disabled list, the club is looking for some infield help. Sveum was asked if Chone Figgins could be an option.“Figgins would be interesting just because he switch-hits, he can play the outfield, he can run, he can play the infield,” Sveum said. “He’s like a super-utility guy.” Figgins was released by the Marlins this week after hitting .308 (8 for 26) with six RBI in 11 spring games.

Padres Should Inquire About Chone Figgins

Chicken FriarsChase Headley is out for about a month with a broken thumb. And now the Padres are scrambling to find a serviceable third baseman who could hold his ground until Headley gets back. The logical choice is moving Jedd Gyorko to third, or giving Forsythe a shot at his natural position. James Darnell is waiting [...]Padres Should Inquire About Chone Figgins - Chicken Friars - Chicken Friars - A San Diego Padres Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Heyman: Angels not thinking about bringing back Chone Figgins

CBSSports.com Fantasy — CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports it doesn't appear the Angels are "thinking too seriously" about reuniting with former Angel and free agent Chone Figgins. Figgins was released by the Marlins Wednesday after signing a minor-league deal with the team in February. An Angel from 2002 to 2009, he hit .181/.262/.271 in 194 plate appearances last season and posted an even worse line the previous year.

Marlins release IF Chone Figgins; Wade LeBlanc struggles against Nationals

Fish Tank | Palm Beach Post — The Marlins released infielder Chone Figgins today, narrowing the backup infield competition. Figgins hit .308 in 11 games but was unsteady in the field. The Marlins signed Figgins, 35, to a minor league deal on Feb. 8 hoping he could provide some backup at third base and also contribute in the outfield. Nick Green, Chris Valaika and Kevin Kouzmanoff are competing for one or two spots. The Marlins have 42 players remaining in camp. LEBLANC STRUGGLES The more Mike Redmond speaks, the more it appears Wade LeBlanc will be a part of the Marlins rotation. LeBlanc had his roughest outing of the spri...

Catching up on Mike Carp, Chone Figgins and other ex-Mariners

Seattle Times — Since I was curious myself, I thought others might be wondering how some of the ex-Mariners from last season are doing — and there are a lot of them at various major- (and minor-) league outposts. Mike Carp, Red Sox (designated for assignment when Mariners signed Joe Saunders, traded to Boston

  • Chone Figgins Gets It Perfect
The other day, I wrote about the fact that Chone Figgins was still out there unsigned. He was basically freely available, since the Mariners are on the hook for his 2013 salary, and it seemed to me to say something that no one was even rumored to be so much as interested in Figgins' services. Of course he would eventually get a job, but no one was in a rush to give one to him. That was how far Chone Figgins had fallen. Figgins has got a job now. And it's just about perfect. MIAMI -- The Marlins are continuing to add players with something to prove, with the latest being the versatile...

  • Position preview: Can Kyle Seager improve on his breakout year?
Call it a surprise. Call it a breakthrough. But Kyle Seager isn’t about to let you call his 2012 season with the Seattle Mariners an aberration. After starting the season as a platoon player, he took away the third base job from a flailing Chone Figgins and made it his own – and became probably the team’s best hitter in the process. But don’t think for a second that Seager has rested on his accomplishments during the offseason. That has never been his way. And it never will be. He knows he can’t simply rely on his talent because he’s … Read more »
  • When The Market Spoke Of Chone Figgins
The offseason, obviously, isn't finished. We know this because the Seattle Mariners aren't yet playing baseball games. We know this also because we know that it's February, and Kyle Lohse is still out there as an unsigned free agent. Michael Bourn is also still out there as an unsigned free agent, and Bourn's sabermetric numbers are incredible. Someone still needs to sign Bourn, and the team that lands Bourn will be landing a hell of a center fielder. It could even conceivably be the Mariners! It is not likely to be the Mariners. One of the reasons a number of Mariners fans are opposed...
