Cooked Moose Gives A's A Sweep Of One-Run Games!

Athletics Nation — It didn't come easy today for the A's or for A.J. Griffin, as the Royals put up picket fences in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th. In the 3rd, Griffin walked Chris Getz (on a strike, but we won't bother to be bitter because the A's won) and Getz came around to score (on an Alex Gordon hit, one of 4 he had today). In the 4th, Griffin walked Hosmer leading off, and Hosmer came around to score (on a single by Getz, who had two hits and a walk today despite generally being terrible with a bat in his hand). In the 5th, after the A's closed the gap to 2-1 on singles by Cespedes and Moss and a Donaldson...

Royals riding red-hot Elliot Johnson

CBSSports.com Fantasy — For the fourth time in the past five games, Royals infielder Elliot Johnson earned the start at second base as the team continues to ride his hot streak. Johnson had his modest four-game hitting streak halted Friday but is hitting a solid .357 during the month of May, prompting additional playing time while Chris Getz has sputtered. "He's swinging the bat well and playing exceptional defense. He's made some nice plays up the middle," manager Ned Yost told the Kansas City Star. "But when (Chris Getz) gets hot, we'll ride him. Our record with Getz in the lineup is well above .500 for the last tw...

Miguel Tejada a very deep AL-only thought

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Imagine a 12-team AL-only Roto league (which actually exists) where the top four free agents are Rick Ankiel, Wilkin Ramirez, Jose Iglesias and Shelley Duncan; only one of those players is currently in the majors. This is the world in which Miguel Tejada is now relevant. With a nod at third on Tuesday for the Royals, Tejada has two starts in the last three days, with a case for more -- Mike Moustakas is struggling and Chris Getz is hitting just .216 with one home run (he also made a crucial error in Monday's game against the White Sox). Tejada, meanwhile, is hitting .313 in the very small samp...

Royals 6, White Sox 5 (10 innings): Walks set up walk-off

South Side Sox — Here's a good rule of thumb: If there's a runner in scoring position with two outs in extra innings and Chris Getz comes to the plate, go after him. Unless it's the National League, it's highly likely the hitters behind him can only be better. Robin Ventura -- and, subsequently, the White Sox season -- hit a new low when he asked Brian Omogrosso to intentionally walk Getz with the winning run on second. Getz, mind you, came into the game hitting .229/.250/.327. And it's not like he was taking advantage of matchup advantages (.212/.226/.346 against righties), either. Behind him: Georg...

Chris Getz returns to lineup

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Royals second baseman Chris Getz returned to the starting lineup Saturday against the White Sox. Getz had been out with allergy-related issues.  The light-hitting infielder will look to come out of a 5-for-33 slump when he takes the field against Chicago.

Allergies keep Chris Getz sidelined

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Royals manager Ned Yost said he held second baseman Chris Getz out of the lineup Wednesday because he was dealing with allergy-related issues, per The Kansas City Star. Getz is expected back in the lineup Thursday. "He could play (Wednesday), but (on Tuesday), he and a couple of guys had allergies that were really kicking up," Yost said. "They were really drained. I sent him in from (batting practice). He didn’t even hit. He feels much better today. They’ve got him on medicine."

Chris Getz ends long homerless drought

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Royals second baseman Chris Getz said he saw the note on the Braves' scoreboard Tuesday night about having 954 consecutive at-bats without a home run before he ended the drought with a solo blast off Kris Medlen.  "I actually saw it on the board while I was hitting," Getz said of his third career home run, per MLB.com. "So that definitely added to the satisfaction. It's too bad we lost, and too bad it took so long for me to get another one up there." Getz extended his hitting streak to four games Tuesday. He's batting .400 (6 for 15) with two doubles, two RBI and five runs in that span. ...
