Pagliacci's team

Dodgers Thoughts | ESPN Los Angeles — The analogy doesn't quite work, but the above was the best I could come up with for the latest result. Los Angeles got a rare first-inning lead on Andre Ethier's two-run homer, but gave it up for good on a three-run homer by Houston third baseman Chris Johnson in the sixth inning. The Dodgers lost their sixth straight game and fell to 69-72. Only four Dodger teams have finished below .500 since 1988. According to my research on Baseball-Reference.com, no Dodger team has ever entered September with a winning record and finished the season with a losing record.

Dodgers stumble to their sixth consecutive loss, fall to Astros, 3-2

Dodgers Blog | Los Angeles Times — Not enough can go right for the Dodgers right now. Not when Ted Lilly again pitches well. Not when they jump out to an early 2-0 lead on an Andre Ethier home run. Not even when 16-year minor leaguer John Lindsey finally gets his first major league at-bat. Somehow they find a way to lose, again. Manage to turn a promising game into another forgettable loss. This time Lilly made one mistake and Chris Johnson crushed it for three-run homer to lead the Astros to a 3-2 victory Thursday, handing the Dodgers their sixth consecutive defeat. That matched their season...

Astros take series with 4-0 win over Cubs

Cubs Blog | Chicago Breaking Sports — By Paul Sullivan Starlin Castro returned to the Cubs lineup Wednesday night after a two-game benching and committed a sloppy error in the first inning. Randy Wells managed to get out of the inning by stranding a pair of base-runners, getting Castro off the hook. But he gave up a run-scoring single to Humberto Quintero in the second, a solo homer to Hunter Pence in the third and an RBI single to Chris Johnson in the fifth, putting the Cubs in a 3-0 hole. The Astros wound up with a 4-0 win to take the series, two games to one, leaving Mike Quade with a 9-6 record. Full game story |...

Who is your top Astros rookie? ... And a thank-you

MLB Blog | Houston Chronicle — I am as impressed with rookie third baseman Chris Johnson's play as you are. He has been phenomenal since the All-Star Break. Go by his numbers alone - his batting average (.378 entering Saturday), on-base-plus-slugging (1.021) and RBI total (27)...
