The right-hander felt some stiffness in his right shoulder after a couple of pitches, which kept him out of the game. Perez told The Plain Dealer that his injury was not in the same place as the shoulder injury that kept him sidelined for much of spring training. Perez said he should be available for Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He has struck out seven and has not allowed a run in his last six innings against the Yankees, dating to 2011.

Verlander (4-3) was erratic early, allowing three runs in the first two innings. He settled a bit after that, but the Indians took a 6-1 lead before Detroit closed the gap with a four-run seventh.
