Rockies beat Red Sox in 11 innings despite striking out 24 times

Sale was magnificent. His 17 strikeouts tied Arizona's Randy Johnson (April 21, 2002) for the most strikeouts for a starting pitcher against the Rockies in a single game in franchise history.

Red Sox 4, Rockies 5: Wasting an all-time Sale Day

Red Sox 4, Rockies 5: Wasting an all-time Sale Day

Chris Sale was about as good as we’ve ever seen, but the Red Sox still lost. This was a brutal loss. After winning their previous five games it’s hard to be mad about a single loss, of course. It was bound to happen. But given the specifics around this particular game, it hurts. Chris Sale was absolutely magnificent in his start on Tuesday, showing some of the best stuff we’ve ever seen from him. That’s obviously saying something. The lefty struck out the first six batters he saw and eight of the first nine, eventually getting through seven innings with 17 strikeouts. It was the...

Game 42 Gamethread: Red Sox vs. Rockies

The Red Sox have won five in a row and are now welcoming in a team that we rarely get to see in the Rockies. This is, of course, a rematch of the 2007 World Series, just with some new faces. Among those faces is that of Nolan Arenado, perhaps the best player we almost never see. I’m excited for this little two-game series, but it will be tough for the Red Sox. They start off with Chris Sale on the mound to face off against Kyle Freeland. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM ET. This will be your space to discuss the game. Go Sox!

Red Sox vs. Rockies lineup: Sale seeks Sox’s sixth straight win

There really aren’t a lot of good synonyms for “win” that start with S, sadly. The Red Sox (22-19), winners of five straight, face the cursed National League Rockies (19-21) tonight in a 7:10 p.m. interleague battle at Fenway Park. Chris Sale pitches. That’s right, Jack! Fresh off an 8-inning, 1-run, 14 strikeout performance against the lowly Orioles, Sale faces a real baseball team with two perpetual MVP candidates in Charlie Blackmon and Nolan Arenado, and a third one now in Trevor Story. They also face Kyle Freeland, a good lefty who has had a rough go of it this season......

OTM Open Thread 5/14: It is Tuesday

Happy Tuesday everyone. The Red Sox are back in action after a day off on Monday, with the Rockies coming into town for a short, two-game set. The Red Sox will send Chris Sale to the mound to take on Kyle Freeland as Boston goes for six in a row. Meanwhile, the Bruins are looking to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals as they travel to Carolina for Game Three of that series. In the NBA, the Western Conference Finals begin tonight with Portland taking on Golden State. Use this space to discuss whatever you’d like. As always, just be nice to each other.

Daily Red Sox Links: Mookie Betts, Chris Sale, Jackie Bradley Jr.

In today’s links, we look at improvements by being made by players all over the roster. Mookie Betts is an MVP winner and annual contender for the award for a reason. Well, many reasons actually. (Alex Speier; Boston Globe) Chris Sale is Chris Sale again. (John Tomase; NBC Sports) Sale isn’t the only one who is back to being himself and that means the Red Sox as a whole are in a good spot. (Chad Jennings; The Athletic) ($$) Jackie Bradley Jr. didn’t make the first incredible play of his career on Wednesday. (Sean Smyth and Andrew Mahoney; Boston Globe) Andrew Benintendi has picked up...

Boston Red Sox: A Tale of 8-Starts for Chris Sale

To start the 2019 season, the Boston Red Sox and Chris Sale struggled to find their groove. Things, however, are starting finally starting to look up. Daily Red Sox Links: Chris Sale, Michael Chavis, J.D. Martinez

In today’s links, Chris Sale makes adjustments, Michael Chavis could play a new position and J.D. Martinez seeks advice. Chris Sale is back to his ace-like form and the signs that he would get there were present before he tossed an absolute gem on Wednesday night. (Alex Speier; Boston Globe) Alex Cora is aware that Michael Chavis needs to be in the lineup by any means necessary. (Ryan Hannable; WEEI) Even though he is an All Star, J.D. Martinez can still learn from his father. (Alex Speier; Boston Globe) The Red Sox may have some inconsistencies in the bullpen, but Matt Barnes has been...
