Game 68 wrapup: Freiman please to share a bit of Young’s big day; Jaso on `Dino’s curse’

Inside the A's | Oakland Tribune — Much of the focus around Chris Young’s three-hit, one-walk night Friday was on the home run he hit. And it was a monster, 419 feet to left field. But it was his third-inning double that was at least as interesting. As he cruised into second base, he raised both of his fists to cranium level [...]

DLD 6/13/13: Day Game Edition

Athletics NationMariano Rivera, all-around good guy. Dave Cameron takes a look at how good the A's have been over the past calendar year. Unlike the Bleacher Report article from a few days ago about the A's (the one that said Chris Young is batting five home runs), this one is not concentrated crap. It's quite well-written, in fact. Sean Doolittle has pitched 49 full counts in his career. Last night was the first time he had thrown a changeup in a full count. Today's starting lineup has been posted, and once again Yoenis Cespedes and Coco Crisp are not in it. Three right-handed batters will face H...

What's Wrong With Chris Young?

Athletics NationChris Young is a good baseball player. He was worth about 14 Wins Above Replacement in his six seasons in Arizona, he was an All-Star in 2010, and he's surpassed 20 homers four times in his career while playing a mean center field. When the A's were able to acquire him in an essentially straight-up swap for Cliff Pennington, it was a no-brainer deal for Oakland. Monetary jokes abounded. "The A's added an All-Star center fielder for the low cost of just one Penny! Moneyball!" So far in 2013, though, the joke has been Oakland. Pennington is doing his normal thing in Arizona, hitting lik...

Chris Young has Melvin’s backing through struggles

Inside the A's | Oakland Tribune — It’s been a tough year so far for Chris Young, but the A’s outfielder still has the solid support of Oakland manager Bob Melvin. Young, who normally starts against left-handed pitching, was out of the lineup Saturday because of illness. He was feeling better, and he was back in the lineup Sunday as the designated [...]

Game 49 wrapup: A’s stretch the limit of their infield to preserve Young’s heroics

Inside the A's | Oakland Tribune — In for John Hickey … Hard to say what was more thrilling to watch, Chris Young’s three-run blast that gave the A’s the ninth-inning lead Friday night against Houston or what Bob Melvin had to do to preserve it in the bottom of the ninth with closer Grant Balfour on the mound. With Jed Lowrie [...]

Game #44: Oakland Athletics vs. Kansas City Royals

Athletics Nation — The A's try to win the weekend series and get back to .500 as Tommy Milone takes the mound tonight, looking to repeat the performance by Parker last night. The A's welcome back Chris Young as they get another piece back into the lineup. Well, if you didn't read the A's news today, you will notice that the A's brought up Chris Young, who will be in the lineup today. They have DFA'd Daric Barton again for the roster space. Tommy Milone will be on the mound tonight, following Parker's brilliant start last night. The A's haven't had back-to-back quality starts very often this season, so i...

A’s facing a flurry of roster moves this week

Inside the A's | Oakland Tribune — The A’s have some decisions to make in the next week, and not all of them are clear cut. Between now and Friday, outfielders Chris Young and Coco Crisp and starting pitcher Brett Anderson are likely to come off the disabled list. It seems a no-brainer that Dan Straily will be the odd man out [...]

A's still reeling from 19-inning marathon

Athletics Nation — Wow, that 19-inning win was something. There was pie, there was a horrific game by Josh Hamilton, and there was the fun of seeing Jerry Blevins swing a bat. However, there were also injuries. The A's lost outfielders Coco Crisp and Chris Young that night. While Young could be back after he's eligible to be reinstated from the disabled list Wednesday, San Francisco Chronicle beat writer Susan Slusser writes that it might take some more time for Crisp. It seems, however, as if Crisp is not close to returning from the DL. He's eligible to come back Wednesday - and another outfielder, Ch...

Mariners deal A's 5th straight loss

San Francisco Chronicle — Mariners deal A's 5th straight loss Three outfielders (Coco Crisp, Josh Reddick and Chris Young) and No. 1 starter Brett Anderson are on the disabled list. Donaldson was involved in one of those early defensive plays, crossing in front of shortstop Jed Lowrie in the first inning on a big chopper by Kendrys Morales, what looked to be a potential inning-ending double-play ball. Straily walked four men and three of them scored - and also with the home-run ball; Raul Ibañez got him for a three-run shot in the third inning. Seattle's Hisashi Iwakuma - whom the A's failed to sign after winning ...

Reddick Headed To DL, Barton Headed To Cleveland

Athletics Nation — To play for the A's, that is. Susan Slusser is reporting that Josh Reddick will join Coco Crisp, Chris Young, and Brett Anderson on the 15-day DL and that Daric Barton will be called up to take his spot on the roster. This likely means Moss will play a lot of RF the next 2 weeks, alongside Seth Smith and Yoenis Cespedes. Barton is not on the 40 man roster, so this means the A's will need to clear a spot on the 40-man to make room for Barton. So goodbye...Who? (Update: It has been pointed out that "Norberto to the 60 day DL" is a strong possibility that would not require anyone to be re...

Chris Young returns to Oakland for injury rehab

Inside the A's | Oakland Tribune — The A’s sent Chris Young back to Oakland so the outfielder, currently on the 15-day disabled list, can join the rest of the group working with rehab coordinator Brian Schulman. Young (left quad) becomes the third player to have been disabled in Monday’s 19-inning, six-hour, 32-minute win over the Angels to be in the Bay [...]
