Pedey And Pom Pace Red Sox To 5-1 Win Over Jays

(AP Photo)Drew Pomeranz just keeps on pitching well—and well above expectations. The lefty went 6.2 innings last night giving up just three hits and one un-earned run in a 5-1 Boston victory. It was his 10th win of the 2017 season.  On the offensive side, Dustin Pedroia continued his Jumpin' July—going 2-3 with a walk and knocking in three runs. Chris Young continued to shine in the DH role—going 2-4 and Mookie Betts scored two of Boston's five runs. Deven Marrero delivered a two-run single early to help set the tone for the night. Pomeranz was not fully sharp, but he wriggled out of...

Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 1: Drew Pomeranz is good; Offense shows life

Red Sox 5, Blue Jays 1: Drew Pomeranz is good; Offense shows life

That was a nice, stress-free game. It’s been awhile since we got one of these, and it feels so good. After a week of long, absurd, frustrating games since the All-Star break, the Red Sox finally came through with a satisfying, all-around victory against the Blue Jays on Wednesday. The offense scored early and gave the team a rare early, comfortable lead. They also got production from some slumping players, with Mookie Betts and Chris Young both reaching a couple times early. On the mound, Drew Pomeranz overcame some shaky command to still come through with a strong start. This was good....

Red Sox vs. Yankees lineup, game 1: Cy vs. Cy

Red Sox vs. Yankees lineup, game 1: Cy vs. Cy

Rick Porcello goes against CC Sabathia in Game 1 of today’s ill-timed doubleheader. The Red Sox (51-40) look to score some freaking runs after a frustrating-as-hell 16-inning Saturday loss to the motherloving Yankees (46-42) today at Fenway Park in the first game of an already exhausting doubleheader (1:05 p.m., NESN). One day after yesterday’s offensive implosion, the flailing Chris Young is batting cleanup as the lefty-hitting platoon is mostly in; Andrew Benintendi’s out there with Dustin Pedroia getting the afternoon off. “Wonderful” all around, especially after Bennie’s...

Xander Bogaerts, Andrew Benintendi not in Boston Red Sox lineup vs. Texas Rangers; Tzu-Wei Lin at SS

Boston Red Sox's Andrew Benintendi isn't the lineup against the left-hander Martin Perez. Chris Young is in left field and batting third. Tzu-Wei Lin is at shortstop.

Vazquez Does It All In Rain-Delayed 9-2 Red Sox Win

Vazquez Does It All In Rain-Delayed 9-2 Red Sox Win

(AP Photo)He homered, stole his third base of the year and threw a guy out trying to steal third. Oh, and he also called a terrific game for suddenly good Drew Pomeranz in Boston's 9-2 victory over the Twinkies. We're talking about Red Sox backstop Christian Vazquez who pretty much covered all the bases for The Carmine Hose. Late in the contest, Chris Young launched a "lights-out" three-run HR that got Minnesota thinking about Game Three of the series tonight. Pomeranz went five solid innings (interrupted by two rain delays), giving up only four hits and no earned runs. The lefty struck out...
