Yankees news: Injury updates on Dellin Betances, James Paxton

Injury updates on Dellin Betances, James Paxton, Masahiro Tanaka; Clint Frazier slumping since coming off the IL; Aaron Hicks is starting to heat up. MLB.com | Sarah Langs: It’s time for your daily injury update. During Saturday’s game, Masahiro Tanaka deflected a ball with his right shin. The Yankees are hoping that he will be able to make his next start, but he is experiencing soreness. More pitching news: Dellin Betances threw from 90 feet yesterday. He reportedly hasn’t felt any pain in his shoulder recently. Finally, James Paxton threw a bullpen session on Sunday. The southpaw...

Clint Frazier has made one big “change” in his game

Clint Frazier has made one big “change” in his game

Trusting the trait that got him to the majors has yielded the best season yet from the former top prospect Six weeks ago I wrote about the opportunity that was in front of Clint Frazier in light of the dozen or so Yankees that have gone down with injury. Since then, he’s grabbed that opportunity by the horns, posting a 120 wRC+ sandwiched around an IL stint of his own for a sprained ankle. Frazier’s looking like the player we knew he could be, and the question is, how has he done it? At first glance, Frazier’s become an awful lot more disciplined. This is something we could have...

Yankees Highlights: Sixth inning sinks New York in entirely forgettable loss

Yankees Highlights: Sixth inning sinks New York in entirely forgettable loss

This wasn’t one for the highlight reel. There exist two kinds of losses: the painful, unforgettable ones and the banal, annoying ones that never get thought of again. For the Yankees, Saturday night’s loss against the Rays fits squarely in the second category. It started slow, had a moment where winning seemed possible, then devolved into a series of frustrating events. Winner of the Game Clint Frazier came into Saturday evening’s game having gone 4-for-20 since returning from the injured list. While he didn’t put up big numbers, he doubled to drive in the first run of the night...

The Yankees have a decision to make in left field

The Yankees have a decision to make in left field

Brett Gardner or Clint Frazier? The Yankees’ choice will reveal the skill set they value most. Much as they did last season, the Yankees entered 2019 with what seemed to be a surplus of outfielders: Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks, Brett Gardner, Mike Tauchman, Clint Frazier, Tyler Wade, and — at least in theory — Jacoby Ellsbury. Yet just like last year, half of those players ended up on the injured list, turning the apparent logjam into a scramble to find healthy bodies. That scramble led the team to pick up journeyman Cameron Maybin, who has been the anti-Shane Robinson...

Clint Frazier’s second game back from IL is marred by outfield blunders

It was a rare moment of absolute frustration. The normally stoic Masahiro Tanaka watched in disbelief Tuesday night as a routine fly ball dropped between Clint Frazier and Brett Gardner. He screamed. And screamed again. It was not the first time the young outfielder’s miscue in the outfield had...

NYY vs. SEA: Masahiro Tanaka vs. Marco Gonzales

NYY vs. SEA: Masahiro Tanaka vs. Marco Gonzales

After taking the first of three, Yankees look to clinch a series win with Tanaka on the hill. Over the weekend, the Yankees took their first series win against a team that started the series above .500, and they’ll look to do so once again today. Yesterday we gladly welcomed Clint Frazier back to the team, and though he may have struck out a couple times, it’s good to see the reinforcements starting to arrive. Aaron Boone mentioned Miguel Andujar would see most of his games at designated hitter while he gets himself back to optimal shape, which allowed Gio Urshela to continue playing...

Ask Pinstripe Alley: Yankees mailbag questions request

Send in questions for Friday’s mailbag! Since our last mailbag call, the Yankees have cooled down a little bit. They went 2-3 on the week, including a short sweep in Arizona. The replacement players, who deserve credit for carrying the team for most of April, appear to have fallen back to Earth. The good news, however, is that reinforcements loom. For this week’s mailbag, you may want to ask about the impending return of Clint Frazier. Perhaps you’re curious about Gary Sanchez’s power resurgence. Or maybe you have something else on your mind. Any and all Yankees questions are...

Yankees Injury Update: Clint Frazier, Didi Gregorius, and more

Here’s the latest on the many injured Yankees We’re just about a week in to May, and the Yankees’ injured list continues to span double-digits. Some players, however, are making progress towards a return. There are a lot of moving pieces involved though. To make things easy to follow, here’s the latest information available on all 13 injured Yankees. Clint Frazier During a radio interview with Jim Bowden, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed that the team would activate Frazier either tonight or tomorrow. As it turns out he was activated today. The outfielder sprained...

Yankees activate Clint Frazier from injured list, option Stephen Tarpley to Triple-A

The reinforcements continue to arrive. The rumors and speculation surrounding Clint Frazier’s return swirled for days, but the Yankees made it official on Monday morning. The team announced that they activated Frazier from the 10-day injured list. As a corresponding move, Stephen Tarpley heads to Triple-A. Frazier, 24, landed on the injured list on April 25, three days after spraining his ankle during a marathon game against the Angels. “They feel like it’s a 10- to 14-day thing,’’ Aaron Boone told Pete Caldera. Frazier missed 11 days, so that projection was right on the money....

The Yankees replacements look awfully familiar

The Yankees replacements look awfully familiar

Despite the narrative this team changed their offensive approach, the numbers don’t bear that out Rejoice, my friends, for the Yankees appear to be on the cusp of good health. Miguel Andujar was activated yesterday, Clint Frazier is expected back tomorrow, and Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Hicks are both well on their way to rejoining the team too. For the first time all season, we can be optimistic about the lineup rather than wonder who the next guy to go down is going to be. Of course, in the time that All Of The Team was on the injured list, the ragtag group of replacements did a great...
