Thursday's Indians minor-league roundup

News-Herald — -- Tim Fedroff led off Columbus' Triple-A game against Charlotte with a home run to ignite the Clippers in a seven-run inning and a 12-9 win over Charlotte. Following a Ryan Rohlinger walk, Cord Phelps hit a two-run home run. Matt Lawson and Chris Wallace added RBI doubles. Cedric Hunter and Fedroff had RBI singles in the inning in which 12 Clippers batters went to the plate.

Wednesday's Indians minor-league roundup

News-Herald — -- The visiting Clippers, powered by a three-run eighth inning, won, 5-4 at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in Triple-A. Right fielder Jeremy Hermida tied the game in the eighth with a two-run homer. Then pinch hitter Cord Phelps drove in the go-ahead run when the RailRiders couldn't finish a double play on his grounder to first. Tim Fedroff, Mike McDade and Matt Carson each had two hits for the Clippers (10-10). Trevor Bauer gave up two runs and struck out eight in five innings.

Plain Dealer — Cord Phelps is playing second base Thursday against Boston lefty Jon Lester. Jason Kipnis, who has not played since April 12, is working through a left-elbow issue.

Jason Kipnis out until at least Friday

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis remained absent from the starting lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox for a fourth straight game because of a sore left elbow. Cord Phelps replaced Kipnis in the lineup. Cleveland skipper Terry Francona said Kipnis wanted to play Wednesday, but the team will be smart with him and keep him out until Friday's game in Houston, MLB.com reports. He will miss Wednesday and Thursday's games against Boston.  Kipnis last played April 12 against the White Sox.

Akron Beacon Journal — CLEVELAND:: The cut on Micheal Bourn's right index finger has turned out to be more than a nuisance injury. Indians anager Terry Francona said this afternoon that Bourn, the starting center fielder, would go on the disabled list in a day or two, which means he wil be lost to the team until April 30 at the earlierst. The cut required five stitches to close, so it was presumed that Bourn would be out from five to seven days, the time it took before the stitches could be removed, but that is not the case. Indians promote Cord Phelps

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Indians have promoted second baseman Cord Phelps. The team's starting second baseman, Jason Kipnis, was scratched from his third-straight game Tuesday. Although his injury is considered day-to-day, it's somewhat worrisome to see Phelps promoted. Mike Aviles will start at second base Tuesday, but Phelps could see time at the position if Kipnis misses a few more games.
