Mariners Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — Corey Patterson played his first game with the Rainiers last night and made his presence felt immediately. Basically, Patterson’s signing is one for minor league depth. Also, it helps to have someone in Tacoma, in case the Mariners do have to designate Endy Chavez for assignment and lose him,  if and when Franklin Gutierrez does return. Class A High Desert’s ninth inning rally came up just short and the Mavs lost 8-7 to Lancaster. Corey Patterson signs with Mariners

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Mariners signed outfielder Corey Patterson to a minor-league contract Tuesday, MLB.com reports. Patterson is expected to go to extended spring training and then head to Triple-A Tacoma when he's ready.  The 33-year-old Patterson last played in the majors in 2011 with Toronto and St. Louis. He's a career .252 hitter over parts of 12 seasons.

Mariners minor league report, April 30, 2013: veteran outfielder Corey Patterson signed to a minor league contract

Mariners Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — The Mariners have signed veteran outfielder Corey Patterson to a minor league contract. He will report to extended spring training. This is a move for outfield depth at the Triple A level. He spent last season with Triple A Nashville.  The Tacoma Rainiers picked up a 4-1 win as Mike Zunino’s triple got the offense rolling. Alex Liddi also homered in the win. Eric Thames and Nick Franklin both extended their hitting streaks. Mariners Blog | Seattle Times — Jason Bay gets the start over Raul Ibanez, despite a right-hander on the mound for Baltimore. A little bit of news today: The Mariners have signed veteran outfielder Corey Patterson to a minor-league deal and assigned him to extended spring training in Peoria. Just a little more insurance in the outfield. Patterson was in spring training with the Mariners in 2010 but didn't make the ballclub. He ended up with the Orioles and one of his best seasons, hitting .269 and stealing 21 bases in 25 attempts. Patterson is 33 and last appeared in the majors  with St. Louis in 2011.

Mets release Herrera, Patterson from minors

Mets Blog | ESPN New York — SARASOTA, Fla. -- The Mets have released seven players from minor league camp: Brad Holt, Daniel Herrera, Craig Hansen, Mike Wilson, Corey Patterson, Pedro Zapata and Brandon Brown. Herrera was returning from Tommy John surgery and eyed May for a return to games. Patterson is a veteran outfielder. Hansen is the former first-round pick by the Boston Red Sox out of St. John's. Holt was taken by the Mets with a supplemental first-round pick in 2008, when the organization had three of the top 33 picks and also selected Ike Davis and Reese Havens.

Wheeler threw 27 pitches, including a pair of pitch outs. The batters included ex-Cub Corey Patterson. "It felt good, but my timing was off a little bit and stuff like that, so a lot of my pitches weren't crisp," Wheeler said at the Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie. "... I've only thrown two innings in a game to live batters.
