Dan Haren's next scheduled start was moved up to Friday to give Zack Greinke a few extra days off.

Morning Briefing: Mets draw Kazmir, A's

NEW YORK FIRST PITCH: Their anemic hitting already has reached historic levels. And things get no easier for the Mets as they shift coasts to California. The Mets are due to face All-Stars Scott Kazmir on Tuesday and Jeff Samardzija on Wednesday in Oakland. After a day off, the Amazin’s then draw expected NL Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw to open a weekend series at Dodger Stadium, followed by Dan Haren and Kevin Correia. “We know going into Oakland and L.

Dodgers, Haren take big step backward in loss to Brewers

LOS ANGELES – The Milwaukee Brewers seem to have the Dodgers’ number. The Dodgers just have to hope they lose it by October. Jonathan Lucroy drove in five runs in the first two innings as the Brewers chased right-hander Dan Haren early and went...

Baseball Player Pitcher Rankings: Kershaw Cleans Up

Keeping with the series, Keith Law ranked pitching tools, and Clayton Kershaw cleaned up the awards (though Kenley Jansen, Zack Greinke, and even Dan Haren get mentions, too) (link insider only): Best fastball 1. Aroldis Chapman, Cincinnati Reds: It's certainly the hardest fastball I've ever seen -- I got him at 104 mph on my gun at Petco Park in September 2010 -- and it comes out of his hand shockingly easily given its superhuman velocity. I can't imagine how any left-handed hitter ever sees the ball, or, if he does, how he manages to stay in the box without leaping out of the way. It's...

Haren's turnaround continues as Dodgers top Braves

Haren's turnaround continues as Dodgers top Braves

ATLANTA – Dead man walking no more. Dan Haren continued to write his own reprieve with a second consecutive solid start in the Dodgers’ 4-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, turning around a season that had been sliding downhill as...

Post-Game 121 Thread: Major Surprise

The H is for horse. I mean Haren!DODGERS 4, BARVES 2 Who are you, Dan Haren? After pulling away for the title of "worst starting regular pitcher" for most of the season, Haren has suddenly thrown two consecutive QualityStart™s, and against good teams: the Angels and today the Barves. Mike Minor was saddled with the loss. Down the stretch, Haren had help from a stable of relievers, including Wilson, Howell, League and Kenley. Offensively, Puig and Kemp contributed RBIs, but the Dodgers rode the bat and legs of Darwin Barney, who had a second-inning RBI and also created an insurance run in...

Dan Haren fighting back from brink

ATLANTA -- When Jayson Heyward hit a lazy pop-up and both Scott Van Slyke and A.J. Ellis drifted over in plenty of time, neither calling for it and the ball landing harmlessly in foul ground, Dan Haren slammed his fist into his glove. At 33 and with a softening fastball, Haren doesn't have the margin for error to shrug off a key out, especially with the go-ahead run in scoring position. Three innings later, when Haren struck out Chris Johnson with a nasty split-finger pitch and Ellis blocked it in the dirt to get the Dodgers through the sixth inning with a lead, Haren -- normally stoic, if...
Final: Dodgers 4, Braves 2

Final: Dodgers 4, Braves 2

ATLANTA -- Dan Haren's reversal of fortune continued with his second consecutive solid start as the Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 Tuesday night. The win was the Dodgers' third in a row and 13th in their past 18 games. Haren had his own...

Game 121 Thread: Aug. 12 @ Barves, 4p

Dan Haren (9-9, 4.57) vs. Mike Minor (4-7, 5.42). If Haren is the Dodgers' worst regular starting pitcher right now, that makes him a minor threat. And the Braves are countering with a Minor threat of their own. The Dodgers' first-place lead is at a season-high five games, but even a minor vs. Minor matchup can have implications in a major-league pennant race. It's been a pleasant surprise seeing the Dodger bats start to wake up lately, with A.J. bopping a home run (and almost a second) in Milwaukee and AGon continuing his RBI madness in yesterday's game. Haren was unexpectedly brilliant in...

WeekEnd HaloLinks: LA Angels host Red Sox

The Angels stunk up the stadium this week, perhaps they should roll down the windows and clear the air before Boston arrives and feels right at home. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Welcome home Halos, and thanks for stinking up our house. Suckage really is contagious. After boning the fans on Wednesday by gifting a Dan Haren (sorry, 5th!) with 5 innings of a perfect game - remember, this is a Dan Haren who hadn't gone 22 outs since APRIL - and managing but a single run on 5 measly hits, this squad then trumped that fail by...

Thursday Halolinks: Haren proves Angels not a sure thing

In a game where the Angels should have dominated, a former teammate shuts them down. Baseball is a funny game.  Not "haha" funny, but more of the head scratching funny.  For example, I've kind of gotten caught up in this FanDuel thing, so far as creating a spreadsheet calculating each players' recent performance and pitcher/hitter matchups and spending a couple hours reviewing stats before making my picks.  Last night's game should have been a no-brainer by stacking my picks with Angels.  Considering how badly Dan Haren has been pitching lately, and how good the Angels run-scoring has...

Post-Game 115 Thread: Black Hole --> Sun

DODGERS 2, ANGELS 1 Wow, that was a pleasant surprise. One outing after being referenced in this blog as one half of the Dodgers' black hole, Dan Haren went out and pitched 7.1 innings of three-hit ball to lead the Dodgers to victory. Despite accounting for the earned run that scored on a Chris Iannetta sac fly later that inning (Brandon League at the mound), Haren was pretty solid, with 4 Ks and 0 BBs. Way to go, Dan! Kenley Jansen allowed a leadoff single in the ninth to Kole Calhoun, who advanced to second with a SB; however, Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton struck out, bookending a...

Rapid Reaction: Dodgers 2, Angels 1

ANAHEIM – Five days earlier, Dan Haren said he was “embarrassed” with how he was pitching and felt bad for Dodger fans and the other 24 players on his team who had to watch it. On Wednesday night, the only people who might have been embarrassed were Angels hitters, who were flummoxed by Haren in a 2-1 Dodgers win at Angel Stadium. Haren, who had put up a 10.03 ERA in his previous five starts, pitched his best game since the end of June, helping calm the Dodgers’ concerns about their pitching depth.
