Nats Journal: Nationals vs. Marlins spring training lineups and discussion thread

After a busy morning that included the release of Kevin Frandsen and the re-assignment of Tony Gwynn Jr., the Nationals head to Jupiter to play the Marlins. Yunel Escobar is at third base once again, the increasingly likely fill-in for Anthony Rendon. Dan Uggla is at second base and hitting fifth in what resembles a potential opening day lineup. Tyler Moore is in left field, perhaps an indication of the Nationals’ preferred substitute until Jayson Werth’s return. Then again, it may all mean nothing and not warrant reading into at all. Either way, there is plenty to discuss below.Read...

Uggla hoping for starting job, not bench role with Nats

Dan Uggla has looked good this spring, but do the Nationals have a roster spot for him? And is the 3-time All-Star willing to be a bench player?

Nats have tough decision to make on Uggla

VIERA, Fla. — Dan Uggla has been in a big-league clubhouse during the final week of spring training for a decade now, but he hasn’t found himself in this position — uncertain whether he’d be heading north with his club for Opening Day — since his very first camp as a Rule 5 draft pick…

Zito and Uggla in (non-Giants) camp

It's like Sophie's Choice, except it doesn't matter I've got a couple links. Let me just leave them here for you. Is there room for Barry Zito on A's as long reliever?Dan Uggla hitting well, vying for a spot on Nationals roster Let's say, hypothetically, that you have the power to get one of them on his team's Opening Day roster. The other one gets cut. There are no loopholes here; you do not get to not choose and hope they both make it, you do not get to choose someone else (Emmanuel Burriss, come on down!), and I never said anything about a genie, so you certainly do not get to wish for...

Nats Journal: Dan Uggla hitting well, vying for a spot on Nationals roster

VIERA, Fla. — Just over two weeks into the spring training game schedule, one of the most encouraging stories in Nationals camp is a player that little was expected from and had a lot to prove: Dan Uggla. Last season was another rough one in his career slide. He worked with a doctor to help fix his eyesight and balance, both affected by blows to the head over the years. Uggla, 35, said he felt better at the start of spring training but a big question lingered: will it actually make a difference?Read full article >>

San Francisco Giants Link Dump, 3/20

In dumps, no one can hear you link Hey, it's been a while since I linked some stuff. I should link some stuff, so it won't have been a while. What does Uggla get for 11 at-bats by the Bay? Why, a ring, of courseYEAHHHHH DAN UGGLA NEWS. If this site was built for one thing – one thing other than subliminally inserting "Listen to Dio" in your subconscious, of course – it was to give you updates on Dan Uggla. And so here I am, updating you on Dan Uggla. He's in camp with the Nationals now, but he's getting that World Series ring, and he'll be happy to have it. And it turns out that his...

Nats Journal: Nationals vs. Tigers spring training lineups and discussion thread

VIERA, Fla. — The Nationals will face their toughest opponent yet Wednesday afternoon when a lineup loaded with Washington’s regulars faces the Tigers and ace David Price. The Nationals will start right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, who is likely to throw three innings. Anthony Rendon was leading off and playing third in the original lineup, but was scratched with a bruised knee. Matt Williams says the scratch is “purely precautionary” and that “he’s fine.” Also, it is Dan Uggla’s birthday. So there’s that. Find lineups below, then discuss:Read full article >>
