Nats Journal: Injury roundup: Reed Johnson’s progress slows, Denard Span and Dan Uggla continue their rehabs

As Aaron Barrett awaits another opinion on his elbow and all continues to move forward for Denard Span and Dan Uggla, the biggest Nationals injury news from Saturday surrounds Reed Johnson, the veteran outfielder who could provide key at bats off the bench late in the season.Read full article >>

Nats Journal: Dan Uggla receives his World Series ring

After the Atlanta Braves cut Dan Uggla last July, he latched on with the Giants, who needed a second baseman before Joe Panik emerged. Uggla spent a week or so with the organization, playing two games with the Giants’ Class AAA affiliate before playing four games in the big leagues with them. In the midst of his worst offensive season, Uggla went 1 for 11 with two errors for the Giants before they, too, cut him.Read full article >>

Giants reportedly scouting Chase Utley

This isn't just Joe Panik insurance. It's Hector-Sanchez-in-the-ninth-inning insurance. Oh, how Chase Utley made sense for the Giants last year. The Nationals placed second baseman Dan Uggla on the 15-day disabled list with back spasms Saturday afternoon. The move allowed them to reinstate Stephen Strasburg to pitch tonight against the Rockies, but leaves them with a four-man bench indefinitely. Uggla pinch hit in Friday night’s loss, but he said the back has been bothering him for a couple days now.Read full article >>

Stephen Strasburg was activated off the disabled list to start on Saturday night against the Colorado Rockies, as expected. The corresponding move, however, is a bit of a surprise. Dan Uggla has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with back spasms, an injury that was previously undisclosed. That freed up a roster spot for…

Nats Journal: Nationals swinging often at 3-0 pitches

With the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning on Tuesday night, pinch hitter Dan Uggla faced a 3-0 count. And as he has often done this season, Manager Matt Williams let Uggla swing at the next pitch. Uggla hit the ball hard to left field but it died at the warning track. Although the opportunity failed, Williams believes in the approach.Read full article >>
