Cardinals Sign Daniel Bard to Minors Deal

Daniel BardDaniel Bard—essentially ruined by the Red Sox jerking him around between starting and relieving—has been signed to a minor-league contract by the St. Louis Cardinals. The 30-year old fireballer had been with the Pirates in Spring Training, but was released. Bard was to have been the 'heir apparent' to Jonathan Papelbon—form whom he had done set-up duties using his 100-MPH stuff. Alas, Boston could not decide whether he was a starter or reliever—completely messing with Bard's confidence. We sincerely hope he catches on with the Cards and succeeds.
