Chicago Cubs: Three better options than Daniel Descalso

The Daniel Descalso era for the Cubs has been one to forget. After getting injured and missing the end of last season, he is back and trying to regain his form from before he became a Cub The Cubs’ Daniel Descalso was never a great hitter, but he was always passable. Before he signed with […] Chicago Cubs: Three better options than Daniel Descalso - Cubbies Crib - Cubbies Crib - A Chicago Cubs Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Cubs 3, Padres 2: The weird recap

Cubs 3, Padres 2: The weird recap

This photo of Daniel Descalso is not from last night’s game | Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports Strange and odd things happened in this game. MESA, Arizona — Baseball — and the world, for that matter — have kind of an apocalyptic feel to them these days, so why not lead this recap of the Cubs’ 3-2 win over the Padres Wednesday night with some things that, while true, make little sense. The Cubs were no-hit for six innings by three random Padres pitchers, although they probably should have had a hit in the second. Steven Souza Jr. hit a sharp ground ball to third base that was...

Cub Tracks slays an egg

Photo by Patricia J. Garcinuno/ Cubs and MLB news — A goose egg, coronavirus concerns, and other bullets Good pitching beats good hitting, it’s said. Both teams enjoyed good pitching last night. Yu Darvish was out for blood. Cal Quantrill hit less bats than his father Paul used to. Craig Kimbrel’s curve looked sick. Mark Grace opined that he was happy to be retired when he saw that kind of pitching. Unfortunately, the Cubs’ bats looked sicker for a long time. Daniel Descalso got the first hit, to lead off the seventh, when Hu was on the mound. And that opened the floodgates. Al...

Who’s going to be the Cubs’ 26th man?

Who’s going to be the Cubs’ 26th man?

Photo by Ralph Freso/ Rosters are expanding this year. New roster rules for Major League Baseball teams in 2020 permit a 26th man to be carried from Opening Day through the end of August. The rule change mandates that of the 26 men, only 13 can be pitchers. In recent years, most teams have done this and carried only 12 position players. Thus, the 26th man is almost certainly going to be a position player for most teams, including the Cubs. The Cubs have several candidates, noted in this Tribune article by Mark Gonzales. Gonzales cites Ian Miller, Daniel Descalso, David Bote and Josh...

Cubs lose two Sunday: Hopefully, what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas

Cubs lose two Sunday: Hopefully, what happened in Vegas stays in Vegas

Two happy kids show off their autographs in Las Vegas | Photo by Jeff Speer/Icon Sportswire via And, a nothing of a game in Mesa. MESA, Arizona — There was no television or other video available for the Cubs’ 8-1 loss to the Diamondbacks at Sloan Park Sunday afternoon and for that, you should be grateful. The game was long — four innings took almost two hours! — and the Cubs had just three hits: A first-inning single by Willson Contreras, a second-inning infield hit by Daniel Descalso (yes, I swear this happened, I saw it personally) and an eighth-inning double by Kyle...
