From Khris Davis to Daniel Mengden, A’s outhit L.A. in romp

LOS ANGELES - After two games of minimal offensive contributions, the A’s switched their bats back on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium. Even starting pitcher Daniel Mengden got into the action, knocking an RBI single up the middle in the fourth inning. But it was Khris Davis, the team’s most important offensive cog, who really did the heavy lifting in Oakland’s16-6 win at Los Angeles. Davis blasted a two-run homer off Alex Wood in the first inning and finished with three of the A’s 21 hits, including a double leading off the A’s five-run fourth. Before...

Rough day for A’s Daniel Mengden: hit by liner, takes loss

Daniel Mengden showed some toughness, remaining in Thursday’s game against Texas after taking a liner off his surgically repaired right foot, but in the short run, it didn’t help him in the A’s 6-3 loss to the Rangers. One run scored on the scorcher off Mengden, and the next batter, Ryan Rua, took advantage of Mengden’s sore foot by dropping down a sacrifice bunt. Mengden’s throw clipped Rua slightly en route to first and got past first baseman Matt Olson, as two runs scored. Drew Robinson followed with an RBI single - and that was it for damage off Mengden (0-2). ...

A’s frustrating defensive mishaps lead to second loss in a row to Angels

OAKLAND — There’s days where a pitcher’s final line doesn’t tell the whole story. Daniel Mengden had one of those days. A quick glance at the A’s starter’s numbers in Saturday’s 8-3 loss to the Angels shows a rather ugly sight — six runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts over 5 […]

Rough day in the field sinks A’s in loss to Angels

Oakland’s defense is much better this year, promise. You just couldn’t tell that Saturday at the Coliseum. Balls squibbed past outfielders. Catcher Bruce Maxwell had trouble blocking pitches in the dirt. And the Angels, fed extra outs, pounced, scoring three early runs after A’s mistakes and going on to an 8-3 victory. Despite the A’s difficulties fielding behind and occasionally in front of him, starter Daniel Mengden did a reasonably good job of limiting the damage, but he was tagged with six runs, five earned....at least two more than he really...

Spring Training Game Thread #26: A’s (12-11) @ Brewers (16-7-2)

Split Squad Game #1 today Wade Miley gets a chance to prove his last start was the exception rather than the rule as he makes his final audition for the Brewers’ roster. The Milwaukee Brewers of Maryvale (16-7-2) will host the Oakland Athletics of Mesa (12-11) this afternoon, and are sending out righty Daniel Mengden to face Miley. Mengden, channeling his inner Rollie Fingers, will make his fourth start and sixth appearance this spring. He has produced an 8.04 ERA with a WHIP of 1.79 in 15 2⁄3 innings. Rather un-Fingers like numbers. The Brewers have Miley in the line-up for batting...
