Blue Jays: What this next chapter means for Devon Travis

Devon Travis was recalled by the Blue Jays before their game on Tuesday night, opening an important new chapter in his MLB career. If you had told me a couple months ago that Devon Travis would absent from the Blue Jays’ roster in the middle of May, I would have assumed he’d suffered another injury. Good start from Estrada, but bats are quiet, Jays lose

Good start from Estrada, but bats are quiet, Jays lose

A’s 3 Blue Jays 1 We’ve been waiting for a good start from Marco Estrada and we got one. Unfortunately, we didn’t score for him. Through 6 innings, Marco allowed just 4 hits, 1 earned (on a solo Dustin Fowler home run), no walks and 6 strikeouts. I didn’t see anything wrong with leaving him in for the 7th, we really need to rest the bullpen when we get a chance. He got two quick outs, but then allowed 3 consecutive doubles, which added 2 earned runs to his count and knocked him out of the game. 6.2 with 3 earned isn’t bad. Danny Barnes got the last out of the 7th. He got the...

Great game for J.A. Happ, Jays win

Great game for J.A. Happ, Jays win

Happ pitches 7 shutout innings, and gets 2 hits and a walk. Blue Jays 12 Mets 1 Winning in the rain. We are winning in the rain. What a glorious feeling, I'm happy today. J.A. Happ was terrific. He pitched 7 innings, and allowed just 2 hits, with 10 strikeouts. Considering he had two hits, a walk and two runs scored, it’s a pretty nice day. I thought Happ was benefitting from a fairly large strike zone, especially early in the game, when umpire Nic Lentz wanted to be sure to get through 5 innings. Aaron Loup pitched the 8th and Danny Barnes the 9th (with the rain coming down hard again),...

Blue Jays roster moves: Barnes up, McGuire down

Blue Jays roster moves: Barnes up, McGuire down

The Blue Jays are sending Deck McGuire back to Buffalo and bringing Danny Barnes up to the majors again. Or at least Shi Davidi tells us, and I’m not expecting that he’ll pull a prank on us. Deck pitched 3.1 innings yesterday and got a hit, so it’s no surprise he’s heading back down for a fresh arm. Barnes pitched just twice for Buffalo, he was down mostly to rest his arm, going 2 inning, with no hits or walks, and 4 strikeouts. He had pitched in 16 games with the Jays, before being sent to Buffalo, putting up a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings, 16 hits, 2 homers, 8 walks and 15 strikeouts....

Around The Nest - Blue Jays Minor League Podcast - Week 4

WOOOOOOOOOOOWW “Congratulations and don’t come back” was the message sent to Blue Jays pitching prospect Conor Fisk down in New Hampshire when he received word that he was promoted to Buffalo. Fisk had spent just a month in double-A, a super brief stay, especially compared to the parts of three seasons he spent in Dunedin. In that month, Fisk was used exclusively as a reliever and he put up numbers: 15 innings pitched, 16 strikeouts to five walks, giving up just eight hits. In his triple-A debut last night, the 26-year-old threw 3.1 scoreless innings for the Bisons. If he continues...

Between Game Blue Jays Roster Moves: Pearce DL, Barnes Optioned

Biagini and Santos up. More Blue Jays roster moves. Steve Pearce goes on the DL. Danny Barnes get optioned to Buffalo. You had to see that coming. We needed more arms and now. Joe Biagini is called up to make tonight’s start. We knew that was coming. Luis Santos gets called up to give us an arm in the pen that isn’t likely to fall right off on it’s next pitch.

Jays can’t hang on as Betts prys open the Barnes Door

Jays can’t hang on as Betts prys open the Barnes Door

Sanchez was not helped by Pearce literally falling down on the job Red Sox 4 Blue Jays 3 It was not a bad night all around for Toronto teams facing Boston teams, with both coughing up late-ish leads. In the Blue Jays case, they were done in by a pair of Mookie Betts home runs, the latter a decisive two run shot off Danny Barnes in the 7th inning to flip a one run deficit into a one run lead that held. Frankly, setting aside the disappointing outcome, the game was about as dismal as the weather. It was quite a sloppy affair on both sides. For a second straight night, the Jays didn’t do...
