Is Danny Valencia a long-term answer for the Oakland A's?

Danny Valencia is the Oakland A's newest scrapheap superhero. The 30-year-old was available on waivers last week, not because he was having a bad year but because the Blue Jays already had Josh Donaldson, Chris Colabello and the newly acquired Ben Revere playing his positions of third base and left field. In four games since washing up on Oakland's shore, he's 7-for-16 with two homers, two doubles, two walks, five RBI, and a 1.438 OPS, and he was the driving force in a series win against the first-place Astros. Viva Valencia! The big debut was fun to watch this weekend, but what does...

Valencia fitting in nicely as A’s latest cleanup hitter option; Monday game to end up coming road trip raises Melvin’s ire

For the third day running, Danny Valencia is the A’s cleanup hitter Sunday, not bad for a hitter that Toronto had to jettison in their mad dash to rework their roster at the trade deadline. And for the second day… Continue Reading →

Oakland A's activate Danny Valencia, option Max Muncy to Triple-A

The Oakland A's made yet another roster move today, though this one was expected. They activated Danny Valencia, the IF/OF claimed off waivers from the Blue Jays on Monday, and to make room on the 25-man roster they optioned 1B/3B Max Muncy to Triple-A Nashville. Valencia is a right-handed hitter whose primary positions are third base and left field. The 30-year-old is batting .296/.331/.506 with seven homers this year in 58 games, but he specializes in crushing left-handed pitching, with a career .864 OPS against southpaws in 634 plate appearances. His overall OPS+ of 129 this season is...

Oakland A's claim Danny Valencia from Toronto Blue Jays

The Oakland Athletics have successfully claimed Toronto Blue Jays outfielder-infielder Danny Valencia from the Toronto Blue Jays off waivers. Valencia is out of options, and so the A's will have to make a move off of their 25-man roster when he reports, which may not happen for a day or two. Potential Rays' DFA targets, especially Danny Valencia

A comprehensive list of players left behind by their old teams that may be beneficial to the Rays, with one who sticks out more than the others. Roster turnover doesn't stop when the trading deadline passes. The flurry of trades forces teams to rework their rosters, and that means that many players get designated for assignment (DFA'd) all at the same time. When a player is DFA'd, that means that he is exposed to waivers. If no other team puts in a claim within ten days, he can be then assigned to the minor leagues, or, if he's a veteran, he can sometimes opt out of his contract and become...
