Freese, Frazier get to Kershaw as Pirates win Kuhl's debut, 4-3

Clayton Kershaw isn’t easily shaken. So when a bloop single off a rookie’s bat pushed across the game’s first run in the second inning Sunday night, David Freese was ready to pounce. He jumped on a first-pitch fastball and cleared the bases with a double up the gap, perhaps the most destructive swing against Kershaw this season, and the difference in a 4-3 Pirates win.

Giants Win 5-3, Finish Kicking Pirates While They're Down

That was rude. The Pirates won 98 games last year, and their reward was a win-or-go-home game against a division rival starting the eventual Cy Young winner. That's some 1993 business, except imagine 1993 coming down to a Game 163 against Greg Maddux. Add that to the previous year, where Pittsburgh was the unfortunate prologue character in A Song of Bum and Garner, and you can imagine the frustration. Maybe the worst part is that a lot is going right for them this year. Gregory Polanco is breaking out, David Freese is bouncing back, and Jung Ho-Kang hasn't missed a beat since coming back...

Pirates outfielder has come back from failure

When David Freese attempts to compare 2015 Matt Joyce, his teammate in Los Angeles, with 2016 Matt Joyce, his teammate in Pittsburgh, Freese sees two distinctly different players. The Angels met the new Joyce last weekend when he pounded left-hander Greg Mahle’s fastball to straightaway center field at PNC Park for his 99th career home run.

David Freese disappointed not to return to Angels

PITTSBURGH – After two years with the Angels, David Freese wanted to stay. “I wanted to be an Angel,” Freese said Sunday. “I can’t hide that. From Day 1, I wanted to come back. I loved the guys. We had unfinished business. It just didn’t...

Series Preview: Angels @ Pirates (Battle for the Booty)

Angels will need all their heave-ho to take on the scalylwag Pirates this weekend and show them no quarter Avast ye!  Talk like a Pirate Day is not until September 19th, but we can practice this weekend because I'm sure everyone on the team from Pittsburgh says things like "shiver me timbers" and "Yo ho ho". The Pirates are 2nd in the NL Central, mainly because they have the unfortunate luck of being in the same division as the behemoth known as those scurvy dogs, the Cubs. Some fun facts are that Matt Joyce has a 1.091 OPS with 5HR and David Freese has 4HR and a .374 OBP.  Okay, less fun...

Pirates Stat Corner: Josh Harrison doesn't get many pinch-hits, but they are timely

Josh Harrison has quietly been a good clutch career in his career, the Pirates make more with less in a win and David Freese hits another game-changing home run.
