Mets sneak away with a win in Philadelphia

Mets sneak away with a win in Philadelphia

Despite their best efforts, they won this game. It was a see-saw, infuriating game at Citizens Bank Park, but somehow the Mets walked away with a 7-6 win after eleven innings of stress. Despite Noah Syndergaard not having his best night, the Mets held a one-run lead heading into the eighth inning. Justin Wilson had been warming up earlier in the game but Mickey Callway went with Jeurys Familia instead. Familia, of course. came in on a double switch and Pete Alonso was out of the game in favor of Dominic Smith. From pitch number one, Familia had nothing. After a single and a walk to open...

How the Mets’ roster might look with the returns of Todd Frazier and Jed Lowrie

How the Mets’ roster might look with the returns of Todd Frazier and Jed Lowrie

The team is going to have some difficult decisions to make pretty soon A large reason for the Mets’ success so far this season has been the successful mixing and matching of players on the bench. Players like J.D. Davis, Dominic Smith, and Keon Broxton have all made contributions through some combination of spot starts, key pinch hitting at-bats, and late-inning defensive replacements. But with Todd Frazier on the verge of finishing his rehab assignment and Jed Lowrie’s eventual return, the 25-man roster which has brought the Mets this early success is going to be shaken up soon, and it...

Dominic Smith’s peeing problem delays Mets’ trip to NYC

Dominic Smith’s failure to produce in the clutch only further delayed the Mets’ efforts to quickly escape Miami for Thursday’s home opener. A look at how the Mets are using their young first basemen

A look at how the Mets are using their young first basemen

Both Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith have been productive to start the season. When general manager Brodie Van Wagenen was hired this past offseason, one of the questions facing him was what to do with the first base situation. He had two young first basemen on his roster, one who struggled at the major league level and one who was passed over for a call-up in September. Not taking the slight lying down, Pete Alonso headed to the Arizona Fall League to further improve his skills. The rookie GM met up with him there and came away impressed by the young slugger. Afterwards he announced that...

Questioning Mickey Callaway’s use of Seth Lugo in Saturday’s win

Questioning Mickey Callaway’s use of Seth Lugo in Saturday’s win

A seemingly small decision may have larger implications. When Seth Lugo entered the game in the eighth inning of Saturday’s win over the Washington Nationals, the Mets held an 8-4 lead. However, the bases were loaded due to some bad luck, bad fielding, and good hitting. Lugo induced a one pitch fly out. The Mets went on to have a three-run top of the ninth, with run scoring hits from Jeff McNeil and Dominic Smith. When the bottom of the ninth began, the Mets had a seven run lead to work with, and Lugo came back out to close out the game. Things did not go as planned for Lugo: he walked...

WASHINGTON — Pete Alonso discovered he had cracked the Mets’ Opening Day roster as part of a gag by his manager. Davis and Tomas Nido — and had them hit together...

Here’s the Mets’ 2019 Opening Day roster

The Mets officially announced the full roster that will open the season today in Washington. The Mets finally released their official 25-man roster for Opening Day today. There were few surprises, as many specifics became obvious and/or leaked out in dribs and drabs over the last couple of days. The most notable of those news leaks was the news that—service time concerns be damned—Pete Alonso would indeed start the season with in the majors. With both Todd Frazier and Jed Lowrie starting the season on the injured list, Alonso’s primary spring first base competition, Dominic Smith,...
