Mets Morning News for June 18, 2018

Your Monday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links. Meet the Mets The Mets were down 3-1, had two outs in the ninth, Jose Reyes at the plate, and improbably they still won the ballgame! The Diamondbacks’ defense failed them which allowed Jose Bautista to double home Jose Reyes. Brandon Nimmo then gave the Mets the lead with an absolute blast and Asdrubal Cabrera added another for good measure. Despite a slip-up by Dominic Smith, Robert Gsellman closed the door to give the Mets a feel-good win. Choose your recap: Amazin’ Avenue short and long, Bergen Record, Daily...

Final Score: Diamondbacks 7, Mets 3—UnGodley hour

The Mets were unable to take advantage early against Zack Godley, but at least Dominic Smith had a good game. The Mets had their fair share of opportunities in this game, but failed to capitalize early with men on base, allowing Zack Godley to limit the damage on a night when he labored and struggled to find the plate at times. The Mets put the leadoff man on in each of the first three innings, but only scored once over that span, thanks to Seth Lugo helping himself with his first hit of the year. Todd Frazier then smacked a double down the left field line to score Lugo for the Mets’...

Mets: Dominic Smith has the same faults as his MLB teammates

Dominic Smith is back with the New York Mets. Unfortunately, he fits in too well with their weaknesses. An issue for the New York Mets this season has been an inability to hit against left-handed pitchers. The recent promotion for Dominic Smith won’t help them much either. As a lefty-swinger himself, we shouldn’t expect much […] Mets: Dominic Smith has the same faults as his MLB teammates - Rising Apple - Rising Apple - A New York Mets Blog Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Mets promote Alonso and McNeil to Vegas

The two Binghamton stars will take their next step to the major leagues by playing in the desert. Top Mets prospects Peter Alonso and Jeff McNeil have been promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas from Double-A Binghamton. Alonso, a first baseman, will replace Dominic Smith, who was called up by the Mets this week, on the Vegas roster. The 23-year-old Alonso hit .314/.440/.573 with Binghamton. His 1.012 OPS was the third-highest in the Eastern League, and he hit 15 home runs in his time with the team. He ranked seventh on Amazin Avenue’s list of the team’s top twenty-five prospects coming into...

Mets Morning News for June 12, 2018

Your Tuesday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links Meet the Mets With the Mets apparently set on not calling up Peter Alonso this season, and Adrian Gonzalez cut, Dominic Smith appears to have the rest of 2018 to prove he can play first base at the major league level. Jay Bruce is mad about the slump he’s in and wants to do better. Jake Dickey wonders whether the Mets would be any better off rebuilding with the current regime still in charge. Kevin Kernan doesn’t think trading Syndergaard or deGrom is a good idea. While Tim Tebow is still far from a great...

Mets are counting on major improvement from Dominic Smith

Dominic Smith wasn’t exactly killing it at Triple-A Las Vegas, but will now be expected to help stabilize first base for the Mets. Adrian Gonzalez’s release following the Mets’ 2-0 victory over the Yankees in the Subway Series finale Sunday left the bulk of the first-base duties to Smith, who had a pedestrian .713 OPS...

The Mets finally won a game and beat the Yankees, but it wasn’t enough to save Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez was released following Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Citi Field after Gonzalez went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts.
