Jamie Samuelsen's blog: Avisail Garcia - not Don Kelly - needs more time in Toledo

Detroit Free Press — We know that Jim Leyland is very good at keeping all his players involved throughout the season. But with Austin Jackson, Torii Hunter and Andy Dirks manning the three outfield positions on a regular basis, Garcia would be nothing more than a spot starter. That doesn't work for him and it doesn't make any sense for the Tigers.

Snap reaction: It's far too early to panic over Justin Verlander

Bless You Boys — The Detroit Tigers lost 10-4 to Yu Darvish and the Texas Rangers. But the loss, Darvish's late dominance or even Don Kelly going yard is not on anyone's radar in Detroit What is on the radar is Justin Verlander getting shelled in what was his second straight sub par start. Verlander has not been his normal, near lights out self in his last two starts. When the best pitcher in baseball over the past few seasons is walking in runs, it catches your attention. Prior to this past week, Verlander had issued bases-loaded BBs twice (Aug. 31, 2007 and Aug. 31, 2012). Has now done it back-to-b...

Tigers try to replace Austin Jackson in lineup

CBSSports.com Fantasy — Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Monday that outfielders Don Kelly, Andy Dirks and Avisail Garcia could all see playing time in center field with Austin Jackson on the disabled list. Although, Leyland hinted Garcia could see the majority of starts in center field.  "He’s going to play," Leyland told MLive.com. "I’ll put him in center against a right-hander. I’ll play him in center against left-handers. I don’t know how it’s going to work out. It could be Dirks, it could be Kelly. But I’m not going to move Torii over."
